I have some big news to share.
After much thought, I have decided to step away from my full-time role at FIDE.
The past two and a half years have given me some of the greatest opportunities of my life. I have had a front-row seat to extraordinary moments, travelled the world, and worked alongside a small but incredibly hardworking media team that I am so proud of. I am deeply grateful to FIDE for trusting me with such a visible role and allowing me to work at the heart of some of the biggest events in chess.
This is not about unhappiness or leaving chess behind. Quite the opposite. I am simply ready to make space for some long-held ambitions of my own.
Going forward, I will continue as a freelance presenter and interviewer, travelling to tournaments and creating content around the game I love, alongside some personal projects I am excited to share soon.
The chess Olympiad in Samarkand will be my final event as a full-time member of the FIDE team, and I cannot think of a more special way to close this chapter. 😊
This is not goodbye. It is the beginning of a different relationship with the game, and I hope you will still see me holding a microphone at many events to come. ❤️

🌍 South Africa explores historic bid for first African Chess Olympiad
A FIDE delegation, led by President Arkady Dvorkovich (@advorkovich), visited the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) as a possible venue for the event. They were joined by Andre Lewaks, President of Chess South Africa; Dr. Lyndon Bouah, Chief Director for Sport and Recreation in the province of the Western Cape; and Kevin Malam, Assistant Director at the Western Cape Government.
The CTICC is being considered as a possible venue for what would be the first Chess Olympiad on African soil. Opened in 2003, the complex has a total floor space of 140,855 square meters and can accommodate up to 9,500 people. Its main auditorium can seat about 1,500 people.

FIDE Open Aid Project 2026: Selected events announced ✨
FIDE is pleased to announce the open tournaments selected to receive financial support under the 2026 edition of the Open Aid Project. The selected events were chosen on the basis of their classical time control, competitive strength, historical track record, geographical location, and the structure of their prize fund distribution, with particular attention paid to provisions for women, veterans, and players from developing countries.
The project, launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, was originally created to help tournaments navigate a period of severe financial uncertainty while supporting chess professionals whose livelihoods depended on regular competition. Since then, it has become a recurring part of FIDE’s support for the global open circuit.
The 2026 edition of the programme, run by FIDE with the support of Freedom Holding Corp, provides targeted assistance to selected open tournaments taking place between June and December 2026.
