The ECU Board meeting held 10 days ago in #Budva made many important unanimous decisions. I could refer to many of them, but they are already available to read. I wish only to state that the procedure to renew the ECU Statutes and rules has been launched. One main contributor to this will be the newly established and composed “Olympic Affairs Commission”, which will add important articles related to the Olympic Charter and our compliance. But aside from this, today we need to deal with serious governance matters in the chess world, such as: 1. Conflicts of interest and abuse of power. 2. Political and states interference in sports (chess) federations and continental bodies. 3. Transparency and clear distinction of roles between elected officials, executives and sponsors with financial power. For these purposes, and in line with the sports charter, we will soon hold two strategical meetings. The first is planned to take place soon in Brussels with EU Commissioners responsible for sports, as well as anti-corruption policies, good governance and the prevention of illegal influence in sports. The second will take place later in Lausanne (as will be planned by our new Commission) with IOC officers, to discuss matters of compliance, sports governance and institutional rules. Time to change the shadow agendas and safeguard chess integrity at the highest level.
