Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.
Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise.
Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers.
Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.
Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU

because you’ve refused to set a scope for PAs in psychiatry - (despite Leng highlighting how important a scope is due to ‘ grey areas’ in psych )

Do the people protesting the Faber decision on Sally Rooney realise they’re basically arguing to legalise funding of proscribed terrorist groups in the UK? One thing to disagree about proscription of Palestine Action, quite another to argue people should be free to fund terrorism. In my view the issue is how the state makes decisions to proscribe certain organisations, not whether or not people should be free to undertake commercial activity in order to fund terrorist organisations.

we went through all this when the late Queen died when JRM trotted out this tripe. Bemused why serious journalists (the political correspondent for the economist, for god's sake) are taken in by the nonsense.
It is embarrassing how little they actually know about the constitution
Nice line but it's bollocks given the demise of the crown Act 1901. Classic Rees Mogg. Sounds clever. Falls apart on scrutiny

I mean wow. Troops engaged in gun battles with the enemy every night and every day.
Night after night.
Week after week.
Month after month (sometimes for years).
Some people fail to realise that we sleep safely in our beds at night because these men and woman are constantly engaged in preventing attacks against this country. We should be focused on the sacrifices and their service not whether they swear at each other. We definitely shouldn’t compare their extraordinary roll to other professions.⬇️

One of the most unfortunate aspects of ME/CFS, POTS and Long COVID is that predictive processing, active inference and interoceptive processes are often neglected in treatment. 🚨
Because this regulatory world is not well understood, the moment it is introduced it is often rejected as “psychologising”
- which is why FND is also rejected and misunderstood.
These are core brain–body regulatory processes operating largely outside conscious awareness.
They shape cognition, emotion and behaviour, but also autonomic function, immune responses and the way the body prepares for and responds to threat.
But that is exactly the misunderstanding.
Predictive processing is not about symptoms being imagined or consciously generated.
When what we observe does not fit our existing model, we have three options:
1/ Change the model.
2/ Ignore what does not fit.
3/ Change the environment or act on the system to test the prediction and learn.
That third process is active inference.
If we cannot conceive of a brain–body regulatory world outside conscious awareness, we may simply refute it because we do not understand it.
And in doing so, we risk ignoring an entire level of illness, and an entire level of treatment.
As a clinician i see it in practice. Not everyone needs this approach - but in ‘resistant’ long standing cases it is crucial to integrate this formulation.
Absolutely shocking from @JanetDafoe. Functional Neurological Disorder is a real, disabling neurological condition. Patients fought for years against stigma and disbelief. Telling us where our diagnosis can be shoved is disgraceful. Is this really a face of #MECFS advocacy? #FND
