I Support Making Standard Time Permanent!
Here are 10 reasons why.
Every year, millions of Americans are forced to “spring forward” and “fall back,” but few stop to ask why. Daylight Saving Time (DST) disrupts our sleep, safety, and health twice a year without providing any proven benefits. It’s time to make Permanent Standard Time the law of the land.
1️⃣ Safety First:
Who wants it to be dark when their children walk to school in the morning? That’s unsafe. And who wants sunlight pouring through their windows at 9 PM, making it harder for older Americans to fall asleep? Standard Time addresses both problems by aligning daylight with our daily lives.
2️⃣ We’ve Tried Permanent DST: It Failed:
In 1974, the U.S. adopted year-round Daylight Saving Time. The result? Disaster. Children went to school in pitch darkness, safety concerns mounted, and public backlash became so strong that Congress reversed the decision within a year.
3️⃣ Standard Time Matches Human Biology:
Standard Time follows the sun’s natural cycle. It aligns with our circadian rhythms, supporting better sleep and reducing the risks of obesity, depression, and cardiovascular disease. Our bodies were designed around the sun, not the clock.
4️⃣ Health and Safety Benefits:
Studies show that switching to and from DST increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and car accidents. Keeping Standard Time year-round eliminates these dangerous transitions and helps keep Americans healthier and safer.
5️⃣ Proven Success Across the Map:
Arizona, Hawaii, and all five U.S. territories already observe Permanent Standard Time. Most of Mexico also restored Permanent Standard Time in 2022. The rest of America should follow their lead.
6️⃣ Expert Consensus:
More than 80 organizations, including the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Society for Research in Biological Rhythms, support Permanent Standard Time. When doctors, scientists, educators, and faith leaders agree, it’s time to listen.
7️⃣ Practical and Reliable:
No more biannual clock changes. No missed meetings. No software errors. Permanent Standard Time makes scheduling, coordination, and business operations smoother and more predictable.
8️⃣ Better for Students and Families:
Students benefit when their school schedules align with natural daylight. Standard Time supports morning alertness and better learning outcomes instead of groggy mornings in the darkness.
9️⃣ Safer Roads and Stronger Communities:
Research has shown that car accidents increase immediately after DST transitions. Standard Time keeps sunrise closer to our daily activities, helping reduce drowsy driving and potentially lowering crime rates during dark morning hours.
🔟 Stability for Health and Happiness:
Time changes disrupt sleep and increase stress and anxiety. Permanent Standard Time provides consistency and a foundation for healthier, happier lives.
It’s simple: Standard Time is natural time.
It’s time to stop changing the clocks and start restoring common sense.

Darkness fell in NYC at 6:24pm EST tonight. That’s natural for November, not “premature”. Standard Time aligns clocks to the sun. Want more daylight after your work? Start your work earlier!

Ridiculous? If clocks stayed on DST, morning darkness would last until 9am. That’s depressing and dangerous. Stick to Standard Time, stop spring forward.

Passwords are phasing out, being replaced by passkeys in the name of "better security."
But I have a question.
Are we making technology more secure for the user, or are we making the user increasingly dependent on the technology providers who control access?

You do realize that the “dark” you morons are so pissed about is due to winter, not the hour change?
I’m gonna spoil the surprise…The days are getting shorter and will culminate in the shortest day of the year in December.
Conversely the longest day of the year is in June…

For everyone who rode a short bus to school: nothing the government does will change the fact your shortest winter day in North America will only have ~9 hours of daylight.
The government can’t bestow you sunshine, despite their lying acronyms and bloviating.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

The sun rose around 6:30am this morning—it was 7:30am yesterday, and it would be 8:30am in January under permanent Daylight Saving Time. Morning sun is most essential for safety, health, education, and economy. Restore permanent Standard Time.

The sun will rise and set one minute later today in Arizona.
Unlike the rest of the country we don't have to change our sleep patterns or school schedules. We follow the sun.
Standard Time is nature's clock.

Daylight Saving is diabolical and stupid.
The clock changes but the sun doesn't.
Standard Time is best. Rise with the sun. Arizona stays Standard Time all year. The rest of the country blows itself up under the delusion that you can get more daylight. You can't.

Rick is wrong again. Americans are more rested and healthy on Standard Time. Scrap the so-called Sunshine Protection Act. Ditch DST instead.

The only thing I can guarantee about Tuesday is that, regardless of the outcome, neither party will learn a damn thing.

Changing them in the first place is the dumbest shit we did. THIS is normal.
For a guy who has travelled to so many places, you should know that only 70 countries have DST. Not majority

If your body feels better today, it's not because you got an extra hour of sleep. It's because your body is now in better sync with the sun after 8 months of trying to fool nature. Permanent Standard Time would help you feel better year-round. @SaveStandard @SupportStandard

We get more sleep AND MORE SUNSHINE when it’s most needed, in the morning! #DitchDST
An extra hour of sleep? Yes, please! An hour less of sunshine? No thanks.
So, how are we feeling about daylight saving time?
Don't forget to turn those clocks BACK one hour tonight! ⏰🍂
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The end of DST does not mean “an hour less of sunshine”.
The hour has been returned to the morning, from which it was taken when DST began in March.

Earliest Nashville sunset is 4:33pm CST, December 3–9. Not 4:30pm, not five months, not pitch black.
Standard Time is closer to the honest sundial time. It preserves the morning light that’s essential for health and performance. Change your schedule, not our clocks.

Senator, agreed that the switch should end. Fatal crashes rise ~6% the week after spring-forward (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3200…). Sleep medicine experts recommend locking the clock on permanent STANDARD time, which best matches our body clocks: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3790…

Daylight Saving Time reduced SAT scores and increased energy costs in Congresswoman Houchin’s state. Permanent DST would worsen these problems. We need permanent Standard Time instead!
Reminder to change your clocks!
Back in July, I was proud to support the Sunshine Protection Act to make Daylight Saving Time permanent and avoid today’s unnecessary clock change.
Unfortunately, this commonsense legislation remains stalled in the Senate. It’s time to get this done and give Americans more daylight in the evening year-round.
