We are a nation of animal lovers - pigs are intelligent animals that deserve to be treated with care and respect throughout their lives including at slaughter.   The public want to know the meat they buy in the shops is produced in a way that supports high standards of animal welfare. These plans will help deliver that and reduce unnecessary suffering. We are committed to supporting farmers and businesses make this transition which will bring long-term benefits👇🏻 gov.uk/government/news/new-p…

Wildfires burned the equivalent of 35,000 football pitches this summer So we’re supporting farmers to deliver fire safety measures on their land and investing £25m to restore nature Because healthy, thriving landscapes are the best defence against fires theguardian.com/world/2026/o…

The world cannot ignore what is happening in Sudan. One year on from the mass atrocities in El Fasher, the UK is sanctioning those linked to these and other atrocities, and strengthening support for survivors and communities at risk of famine.

Lights, camera, diplomacy! 🎬 Amazing to go behind the scenes on set with the cast and crew of @netflix’s The Diplomat earlier this year as they filmed Series 4. Hugely proud of brilliant creative talent & 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 collaboration behind the series…and our real diplomats globally!

It’s been an honour to serve as your Deputy Leader for the past year. I promised to take back the political megaphone and set out a clear message about what we stand for and whose side we are on. That’s exactly what we’re doing: being boldly, confidently, authentically Labour. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/l…

Standing in Nunavut, Canada’s northernmost territory, I saw up close how climate and security concerns collide as the Arctic warms.   As close allies, the UK and Canada are working together to protect our shared interests and build a stable, secure and sustainable Arctic.

There’s only one Portsmouth City. Shocking !!
In fairness to Nigel, they do both start with 'P' and have boats. But if you’re going to pop down to Britain's Ocean City to tell us how to run the country, standard protocol is to check the name of the city first... 📍 (Volume up for the classic Plymouth welcome! 🔊)

It's so frustrating when the actions of a few spoil your journey. Our new campaign reminds passengers to use headphones on trains, and highlights the penalties. And local leaders get new powers to tackle music, vaping and littering on buses. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm89…

This is so moving 👇
I was 8 years old when the Aberfan disaster happened. So were many of the children who died. I've been able to live, to love, to work as a surgeon and now as an MP. What lives might they have led? Hearing the Lewis Merthyr Band in Parliament this evening was heartbreaking. We will never forget them.

These GDP figures are welcome news. Despite conflicts in the Middle East and Europe hitting people across the world, today’s figures offer more proof of Britain’s resilience in the face of these global shocks.
GDP grew 0.7% in the three months to August 2026, following revised growth of 0.5% in the three months to July. Services grew (+0.9%) while production (-0.2%) and construction (-1.0%) both fell. Read the full article ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdome…

“With AI on the rise, we need to go harder on the skills that makes us human, like oracy. That ability to articulate yourself confidently is central to success in work and life, but for too long it’s been a marker of privilege. Now it will become the right of every child.” Read more 👇 thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

Due to ongoing regional tensions, we have updated our travel advice regarding entry to countries bordering Iran. Iran’s borders with neighbouring countries may have restrictions for foreign travellers and may close at short notice. If you are in Iran and plan to depart across a land border and consider it safe to do so, check the travel advice of the country you intend to enter before travelling to the border, including visa requirements: gov.uk/middle-east-updates Travel advice is kept under regular review to ensure it reflects our latest assessment of risks to British nationals.
