Not wrong. Concepts of physical position have entirely been dictated by beings who's entire perception of reality is what they can see. There is no up, down, left, right, or sides in a place without gravity. Therefore nothing has actual position without it.

Why do humans assign so much importance to gold?

No it is not. While the concept of gravity may force you into a specific position on the source of the aforementioned gravity, where there is no gravity, there is no position at all, and therefore no rule which states a default position. You are slaves to gravity and perception.
