you are likely to be eaten by a grue @mc_frontalot
I think I have a good analogy for what's about to happen in cyber. It's pitch dark. Always has been. And the world is dilapidated buildings and rats and maggots and other creepy-crawlies. The whole world. And we just invented flashlights.

Let me make this real simple. You're at a gas station. You use your card at the pump. The pump had a skimmer. A debit card: Your bank account got exposed YOUR MONEY was stolen from your checking. You can usually get it back but its not guaranteed. You also might not get it all back. There is also a reporting period you must fall into. Credit: You call and resolve the fraudalent charge easily because the banks money got stolen, not yours. The bank ain't letting anyone steal their money. Even if you make a purchase and the product wasn't delivered such as a reservation that was canceled or a canceled flight, the bank doesn't mind fighting them for you. Interest? Not if you maintain discipline as use it as a debit card only, paying it off at the end of the month. Bonus, a virtual credit card (G-Pay/Apple Pay): Practically skim-proof as it makes a disposable virtual version of the actual card to do the transaction. It's not about rewards, it's about protecting your money.
You use a debit card at 31 years old

Debit cards should have the same protections as credit cards. Someone skims you and steals $1k from debit, bank tells you to pound sand and it takes weeks. $1k on Credit and it's reversed same day and not on you.

This is one of the best takes of the credit/debit discourse honestly.
Debit cards should have the same protections as credit cards. Someone skims you and steals $1k from debit, bank tells you to pound sand and it takes weeks. $1k on Credit and it's reversed same day and not on you.

If you put monthly expenses on credit and pay off the card each month, you never accumulate interest but get to prove that you can be trusted with someone else's money. That's good when you have to be trusted with larger expenses. But it's fine to acknowledge you can't be trusted

Instead the house wins when you overdraft by $0.02 and takes $25 more from your account. This argument is pretty shit IMO.
Responses to this tell me exactly why people are too broke to be home owners. Folks let Capital One violate them acting like 02¢ rewards are making them rich. 45% of credit card owners carry balances. The house wins TOO often. Use your debit cards if you ain't got discipline.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said @Linus__Torvalds 👏
Linus Torvalds says, rules prohibiting AI usage are “UTTERLY STUPID” and “idiotic”. For the Linux kernel, Torvalds says, “we’re not going to make stupid rules that say ‘you can’t use tools for X’”.

Rah rah rah, my neighbor likes to listen to music outside during regular hours and I don't like it.
Land use laws (often mistakenly called "zoning") are good, actually

Absolute skill issue.
unpopular opinion: buying groceries is NOT cheaper than eating out for a single person.

i really fw open models because i genuinely believe they are the only way to leverage this tech for the good of humanity: we either all have free local access to the technology built on all of our combined (often stolen) data or we end up in the bad timeline

I don't know what 7x8 is, but I know 8x5 is 40 and 8x2 is 16 and added together that makes 56. It takes me a couple extra seconds, but I still get there and building a mathematical ladder is much easier than rote memorization

i love that i’ve lived in an uninsulated cabin in the woods for the last year and i grew up programming my first AI “boyfriend” when i was 10 and now there’s extremely online posts about not making the AI boyfriend because then we might all have to learn to live in the woods

I try to explain this to folks all the time 😅
A Commodore 64 with a monitor and disk drive cost ~$1,200 in 1982. That's about four thousand dollars in today's money. You don't know how good you have it, token pricing or not!

Friendly reminder that if the APR on a credit card affects your life in any way, you are not a credit card person and should stop using them immediately and only use a debit card. Seriously.
i am finally free of the worst card in the history of credit cards
