Thanks @jimsciutto for having me live on your show!
Question: These alleged Russian attacks on shipping off Bulgaria are deadly. Is it even still correct to call it a hybrid war?
Bulgarian MEP @AndreyNovakov: “What is happening in the Black Sea is just another confirmation of the conclusion of your book that we all read two years ago that the peace architecture after the end of the cold war is now over…And when the territorial gains of Russia in Ukraine are not sufficient for them, they are escalating in other points of Europe like in leipzig or close to the Bulgarian or Romanian border or in Poland or in Croatia.“
Today in Bucharest, we discuss the future of regional funding in the EU’s new long-term budget.
As MEP @AndreyNovakov says, regions matter because the economy, industry and, essentially, people’s lives are regional.
Holding the pens on the MFF & EU regional policy, we asked for €560 bn under the ERDF, ESF+, CF, Interreg. We introduced a horizontal partnership principle. We required obligatory regional/territorial chapters in the NRPPs. From @EPPGroup to our regions. Glad to be in Bucharest.
EU 261 - Signed ✔️
And yes, this is a big deal.
As rapporteur, I am grateful to President Metsola and TRAN Vice-Chair Sinkevičius for our great work together.
Outermost Regions Strategy comes at the right time. Congrats to @RafaeleFitto! As @EPPGroup, we ensure that all territories are supported by the National and Regional Partnership Plans - one of my missions as a rapporteur for the future regional policy in @EP_Regional
ECA presented its report on RRF traceability and transparency. The EPP Group has always insisted: every € of EU money must be spent accountably. Findings show that gaps remain in tracking costs, recipients and results. Transparency isn’t optional! @MaleticIvana
Today, the European Parliament approved stronger air passenger rights, marking a clear win for travellers and a major success for the EPP Group, which led the negotiations. The new rules protect existing rights while introducing practical improvements to make air travel fairer, clearer and more reliable.
"The European Parliament has shown that protecting passengers and supporting a strong European aviation sector go hand in hand. After more than 13 years, we are finally delivering clearer rules, stronger rights and greater legal certainty. When people take planes, their rights will not be left behind on the ground. And mark my words: passengers and the aviation sector have a good future ahead of them," said @AndreyNovakov MEP, Parliament's lead negotiator on the air passenger rights law.

Landed! 🇪🇺✈️
The new agreement on air passenger rights has just been voted by an overwhelming majority in @Europarl_EN.
This brings greater certainty to the aviation sector, stronger passenger rights, and easier travel across Europe.
Proud of the work done by all MEPs, especially Rapporteur @AndreyNovakov and @EP_Transport Vice-Chair @VSinkevicius, whose determination and commitment made this result possible. – at Strasbourg, France
EP promised passengers that their rights would not move backwards and we didn't give up. Today’s COREPER decision confirms it.
The 3-hour threshold is preserved. Compensation is preserved. New rights are added, beyond the status quo.
A final vote remains in EP on Monday. ✈️
Today's attack on a crude oil tanker in the Black Sea is yet another reason why Eastern border and Black Sea Member States must receive additional allocation. Thank you @RaffaeleFitto for the talks! The EPP Group is determined to secure NATO's Eastern flank. Defence is regional.
Eye-opening @EUauditors' reports on the next MFF. Thank you ECA Members @MaleticIvana & Alejandro Blanco Fernández for discussing w EPP REGI. Commission’s proposals need to be reworked. @EPPGroup will ensure regions, cities & rural areas hold the pen. Cohesion is EU’s superpower.
The @EUAuditors delivered their opinion on the NRPPs. Our position remains clear: Commissions come & go. Parliaments come & go. Presidents & governments come & go. But regional challenges persist — and so must a strong EU cohesion policy.
Eastern border regions = NATO's Eastern Flank. As of 2028, regional policy will have a security and defence layer. National and Regional Partnership Plans will be strategic - from Finland to Bulgaia and the Black Sea Region. This will be among my priorities.
We have made it clear from the beginning that we will not back down on key passenger protections. Weakening the rules would be a step in the wrong direction. This is a testament to the @EPPGroup's effective leadership on consumer protection issues.
@AndreyNovakov
It is time to co-write the rules with the regions, cities and rural areas on board. In a world of disorder, EU’s regional policy is a safe haven for communities, cities and rural areas because investment is appreciated when it is needed.
#MFF #ReginalPolicy #Cohesion
More money should be invested if fires and floods devastate our regions, if war is raging along NATO’s Eastern Flank and the Black Sea Region, if people need infrastructure and services. EU is cherished and remembered when it is there.
#MFF #ReginalPolicy #Cohesion
780 billion euro under the National and Regional Partnership Plans represent EU’s soft power. But the European Parliament needs to ensure that the plans are more regional than national, more cohesive than divisive, more flexible than restrictive.

Around the table. Where regional parliaments should be when we negotiate the next #MFF. @Calrenet, it was not just a keynote speech but a pleasure for me. Thank you, @ManfredWeber and @TobiasReissMdL!
