I see so much FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) about the future of sw engineering, mostly from non-devs. Along the lines of “soon anyone can spin off AI agents in bulk that act as hundreds of devs.”
A false premise. Just open your airline app that is built by ~hundreds of devs.

So Apple has introduced a new system called “Private Cloud Compute” that allows your phone to offload complex (typically AI) tasks to specialized secure devices in the cloud. I’m still trying to work out what I think about this. So here’s a thread. 1/

quite vague for now, but looking forward to the continuation in the series. Public discourse is useful both if there are lessons to learn and lessons to teach the industry

🪩The @stateofai 2022 is live!🪩
In its 5th year, the #stateofai report condenses what you *need* to know in AI research, industry, safety, and politics. This open-access report is our contribution to the AI ecosystem.
Here's my director's cut 🧵:

"Why is @Amazon acquiring @OneMedical bad news?"
Let's explore.
1. Horizontal integration at Amazon scale of a company that now has the right to access my medical records under HIPAA opens up a huge problem for abuse.

Look, just because:
• Ethereum is down 66% from its highs
• All of DeFi “yield” ended up being a Ponzi scheme
• NFT “art” ultimately was just speculation
• The biggest real world use-case of crypto is *still* buying cocaine online
Doesn’t mean that web3 isn’t gonna happen

A characteristically good post by @danluu : danluu.com/nothing-works/
One observation: "There is a lot of ruin in a nation" applies to other complex systems as well, and being sufficiently good on some margins can excuse almost arbitrarily sized deficits elsewhere.
