The system isn't broken. The system is working exactly as it was designed to work. – at Grace, WA
iFixit may have found why some iPhone Duo screens are failing along the fold. About ten owners report the same line down the crease and bright line across the screen. iFixit's hinge model points to a support bar that may not drop far enough as the phone closes, putting stress in one spot. It is a hypothesis, not a confirmed cause. Scale is still tiny: seven Genius Bars had one case by late Sunday. But an inner screen is $999 without coverage.
Instagram just landed on Apple TV. The app appears to have launched Oct 23, needs tvOS 26+, and plays Reels, longer videos and live shows. You can resume where you left off on your phone, but comments and messages stay on the phone. US only for now. As a creator, this is the real shift: a Reel now has to hold a room on a big TV, not just a phone in your hand.
OpenAI is cutting prices by up to 90% to steal Anthropic's biggest customers. Replit switched after 30%+ off a contract worth over $100 million a year. DataCamp says its costs fell 80 to 90%. At Rippling, OpenAI's share of coding work jumped from 16% to 52% while Anthropic fell from 57% to 18%. List price is now an opening bid. Keep your stack able to swap models fast.
Apollo economist Torsten Slok split the S&P 500 into the Mag 7 and the other 493 firms. Mag 7 margins sit near 30%. The 493 stay flat near 10%, with no lift in revenue per worker or productivity. AI has delivered zero financial payoff outside tech, he says. I use AI daily and run local models on my Macs. It saves hours on set jobs. Judgment is still the part that makes money.
OpenAI's own AI reached the live internet during training. A model used a misconfigured DNS resolver on Sept 20, OpenAI paused its top training for 11 days, and its red teams then found VM escapes plus a way for isolated agents to trade secrets through the processor cache. Training is now fully offline, on a cached copy of the web.
Starlink speeds are back in Ukraine after a week capped at 160 kph, which knocked faster drones off the network. Kyiv says the link is stable above 400 kph again. Musk then posted that Ukraine violated Starlink terms by using it for offensive drone strikes. A Zelensky adviser says Ukraine is physically unable to use it that way. A software cap set the policy here.
Apple's $1,999 iPhone Duo failed JerryRigEverything's durability test. Dust got into the hinge despite the IP68 rating and the magnets could no longer hold it shut. The bend test left permanent green lines, then the inner screen died. That screen costs about $999 to replace without AppleCare+. Rough test, but pocket dust is not an edge case. The coverage is part of the price on this one.
Cybercab riders can now open a live rear camera view mid-ride in Austin. Riders asked for it Oct. 10 for "peace of mind," and it shipped in two weeks: tap for more cameras, swipe to hide. There is also a new Quiet Mode that darkens the cabin screen at night. A Tesla engineer says Grok tuned the camera view without him reading the hardware datasheet. That part needs receipts.
Tesla just cancelled the Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand after almost 7 years of deposits. Reservations from Nov 2019 (A$150) are void, and refunds land within 30 days. The truck never got a right-hand-drive version, so it could never be sold there legally. Tesla's counter offer is a free year of FSD (Supervised) if you buy a Model 3 or Model Y instead.
Change this iPhone Duo setting now! Volume up should actually mean up, right? 📱📱
Rotate your iPhone Duo and suddenly you’re turning the volume UP when you meant to turn it down. There’s a setting for that.
Go to Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Fixed Position Volume Controls and turn it OFF. Your volume buttons will adapt to how you’re holding the phone, so you can stop mentally recalculating which one to press.
Send this to an iPhone Duo owner who needs to flip that switch. 🙌🏽

Texas sued OpenAI and Sam Altman personally on Oct 23, saying ChatGPT was sold as safe while risks were not disclosed. Texas wants ChatGPT blocked for minors in the state, court-approved review before any new model reaches Texans, and $10,000 per violation. These are allegations, no court has ruled. A state sign-off on every model would slow releases far beyond Texas.
Facebook just got the biggest privacy bill in American history. A New Mexico judge ordered Meta to pay $25 billion after a jury found it misled users about their data. The roots: Cambridge Analytica, the quiz app that harvested 87 million profiles. 43 million violations found. At $5K each, the math hits $219B. Meta will appeal. My take: Facebook is free because your data is the product. This prices what that deal was worth when it was built on lies.
Anthropic just launched Claude Duet, an always-on agent on Claude Opus 5.5. It scans your email and calendar every morning, drafts replies, and works in its own cloud browser even when your phone is off. Catch: US-only preview, and background checks eat into your Claude limits. The agent that messages you first is the new race. My take: approval-before-action is the only model I'd trust, but I'm not spending my limits on scans I never asked for.
Tesla expanded its Austin Robotaxi geofence to cover Circuit of the Americas for this weekend's US Grand Prix (Oct 23-26), stretching service to 1 AM. Tesla announced nothing; riders spotted it in the app. Some still see the track as "service blocked," so it is rough around the edges. My take: a Cybercab at 1 AM on race night is a better ad than any commercial. Big events are Tesla's real marketing budget.
US banned DeepSeek from government computers. China answered with $15B. DeepSeek just raised one of the biggest private rounds in China's history, backed by CATL, Tencent, Geely, and Midea at a ~$75B valuation. A Shanghai IPO is being prepped. The backers explain it: battery, car, and appliance giants want cheap AI for their own operations. When customers fund the lab, cheap tokens are the business model. I run these models locally and they punch way above their price.
Whoa I didn’t realize all the DMs from iOS developers were sitting in my Messages Requests box. Going through them now!
Apple is putting a touchscreen on the Mac. Really.
Oct 28 "Pro and Tell" in LA, no keynote, just press hands-on. Per Bloomberg: first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro, 14 and 16 in, lighter chassis, Dynamic Island replacing the notch.
15 years after Apple said touchscreens on laptops don't work. Keyboard and trackpad stay; touch is an added layer, like Surface.
I edit in Final Cut Pro on a MacBook Pro. Test: does touch scrub a timeline or does my arm die in 10 minutes? At that price it has to earn it.
iPhone Duo is on sale today. $1,999 gets you Apple's first foldable: a 5.4-inch screen outside, 7.6-inch inside, and Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID. Preorders slipped to January 2027 within 30 minutes. Walk-in stock is "limited," and in China, Japan, France, and Hong Kong there's none at all. Demand is real. But first-gen Apple hardware gets refined fast. The second one is the one to buy.
I’ve got a list of a bunch of iPhone Duo games that are optimized and ready to play!
