My genuine joy at us being in the final only tempered by Gary Neville now giving major credit to Gareth Southgate who, frankly, has bumbled through this tournament with a terrific squad that he has hopelessly mismanaged.

No Englishman has had a bigger impact on this tournament than Michael Oliver. At last we have somebody who can sit in the middle of the park and dictate the game. Proud. 🏴

Hedy Lamarr was a Hollywood actress in the 1940s and 1950s, and she was considered "the most beautiful woman in the world" during her time.
She began her acting career in Austria and became notorious for being the first woman to simulate an orgasm on screen in 1933.
During this time, she also married Friedrich Mandl, a Vienna-based arms dealer with ties to Mussolini and later Hitler.
The marriage did not last long. In her own words, she wrote, "I knew very soon that I could never be an actress while I was his wife... He was the absolute monarch in his marriage... I was like a doll. I was like a thing, some object of art which had to be guarded and imprisoned, having no mind, no life of its own."
According to her autobiography, she disguised herself as one of the maids and managed to flee to Paris. Others say she convinced her husband to wear all of her jewelry for a dinner party and then disappeared afterwards.
She eventually booked a liner to New York, where she met the head of MGM, who was impressed enough to offer her a $500-a-week contract to work as an actress. In 1938, she arrived in Hollywood and went on to star in several movies, working with the likes of Clark Gable and James Stewart.
Beyond her acting career, Lamarr was also a scientist and co-patented spread-spectrum technology during World War II to prevent the Nazis from jamming navy torpedoes. However, her invention was rejected and wouldn't be implemented until the Cold War in 1962. The technology would eventually be used in developing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology.

To be fair, you have to take your hat off to City.
They've become the dominant force in English football and all it took was completely ignoring the league's financial rules for a decade.

Football, ey? Athletic Club win the Copa Del Rey for the first time in 40 years.
Oh, by the way, this isn’t where the game is being played.
This is a sold out San Mames watching the game on TVs. Magical.

Big fan of the new rule where you can smash a player in the face with any part of your arm as long as it isn't the elbow.

VAR: Yeah, but Cash handles it first.

When Mark Bonner was 10, he did a school project on what he wanted to be when he was older. “I want to be Cambridge United manager,” Bonner wrote. He achieved that dream, bringing promotion to League One, a famous FA Cup win over a strong Newcastle United side at St James’ Park - Cambridge were even first on Match of the Day - and the “great escape” of last season.
Bonner also earned huge respect for what he did in lockdown. He delivered food parcels and made hundreds of calls to fans to check they were OK. He helped reconnect club with their fans. He cared.
Now, Bonner's been sacked. Results were poor, a solitary League One win since Sep 4, slipping to 18th. But he’s a good manager, and will be high on short-lists when other clubs seek a charismatic, empathetic new manager. If and when he returns to the Abbey Stadium one day, he will get a great reception. Mark Bonner will always be a legend there. Good luck to Mark for the future. #CUFC #CamUTD

#FULWOL was a terrific game, both teams going for it, two good managers, full house, televised, and yet it's all overshadowed by some poor/weak officiating and some muddle-headed VAR interventions. Some refs look bereft of confidence, lacking the courage of their convictions, just worrying about Stockley Park watching. For the good of the game, @FA_PGMOL should be working more with managers to improve VAR.
O'Neil #Wolves was very measured in his comments but he had every reason to be frustrated. Again. "You can send me flowers. You can ring me to apologise. You can do what you want but we should be on 22 points instead of 15. The difference between 22 points and 15 for the 1000s of supporters who follow this team around the country is huge. The difference between 22 and 15 on my reputation when you’re trying to build at a big club is irreparable."
O'Neil's doing brilliantly at Wolves but he will be judged, ultimately, by league position. Will the owners remember these rubbish VAR calls? O'Neil's being let down by VAR. The game's being let down. Honest players like Kilman are being let down. Vinicius got only yellow for headbutting Kilman. O'Neil: "The ref said it was a soft headbutt. I said that’s 'absolutely crazy'. So my son at home watching or millions of children watching that, we're telling them 'we can headbutt people on a football pitch as long as it's deemed 'soft'."
VAR is here to stay. So let's try and get it right.

#AFC back Mikel Arteta following his VAR “disgrace” comments and say that PGMOL "urgently needs to address standard of officiating". Spot on. It was a two-handed push by Joelinton on Gabriel. Clear and obvious. (Other two checks inconclusive so go with on-field.) #NUFC were the better side, deserved the win, but this scale of error is becoming too prevalent. All clubs suffer injustices - ask Wolves and Gary O'Neil for starters - and will echo this general desire for better implementation of VAR. Technology is here to stay but it has to be applied more judiciously. Also required: semi-automated offside; more investment in grass-roots refereeing and pathway; academy players who don’t make it as pros encouraged to take up refereeing; specialist VARs; and improved communication of the decision-making process for fans, listeners and viewers. The game does not belong to @FA_PGMOL @TheIFAB or @premierleague. It belongs to fans - and they are being badly let down.
