Honestly I’m getting really tired of people saying “you mean any survival horror game experience” when discussing the importance of survival horror in Resident Evil. There’s a difference between a genre and a franchise's specific DNA. Yes, many games use survival horror elements that are similar to RE, however Resident Evil coined the term and built the exact formula: resource management, atmospheric puzzles, and isolated tension. Any type of Resident Evil media whether it be a game or movie that strips those away loses the exact identity that made the original games a masterpiece, Resident Evil 6 for example. Without resource management, tension, and atmospheric puzzle-solving… IT ISN’t Resident Evil. And if you’re someone who uses this argument… I’m sorry, but you don’t understand the franchise as much as you think you do. #ResidentEvilㅤ #REBHFun

Unpopular opinion: I genuinely think making Bryan completely unprepared for the chaos of Raccoon City was one of the best creative decisions in the new Resident Evil movie. He isn’t Leon, Chris, or some highly trained survival expert. He’s just an ordinary guy who suddenly finds himself trapped in a zombie outbreak with virtually no combat experience. His panic, terrible aim, questionable decisions, and constant struggle to survive actually make sense when you consider who he is. I understand why some viewers might find him frustrating, especially when we’re so accustomed to Resident Evil protagonists who can handle almost anything thrown at them. But that’s precisely what makes Bryan different. Instead of watching another badass effortlessly take down zombies, we’re watching an average person slowly realize the nightmare he’s been dragged into. And honestly, that change in perspective is what made the movie feel refreshing compared to the usual Resident Evil formula. Not every protagonist needs to be a trained killing machine to make a compelling survival story. #ResidentEvil

Games and movies are different mediums. The character you’re controlling isn’t you, the player has limited actions and the character is written a certain way. Bryan was deliberately designed as a regular, incompetent everyman rather than someone trained/skilled like Leon, Chris, or Jill even. Whether that captures “the essence of playing RE” is subjective, but an average person thrown into that situation acting panicked and incompetent isn’t unrealistic. #ResidentEvilㅤ #REBHFun
I genuinely cannot understand why people say the movie capture the essence of playing RE because no where in my 15 years of playing this games I acted like bumbling idiot every 5 minutes while playing

You’ve made a follow up about me, but I still can’t reply directly. That’s petty, but I’ll respond here. I’ve never been in the camp asking for a 1:1 adaptation. I’ve repeatedly said I’d like new characters and a new story set within Resident Evil’s timeline and lore. You’re putting words in my mouth. As for the “sweet, sweet YouTube money,” yes, this is now my full time job. For years, I did this as a hobby because I love Resident Evil. I’m grateful I can now do it for a living. That doesn’t mean every video I make is motivated by money. A fan game based on a movie I enjoyed seems cool to me regardless of profits. That’s the point of ROE. Bringing fans together. Fans of the classic games, new games, movies, whatever. We don’t have to agree on everything. We’re all here because we like Resident Evil. Stop trying to pick camps and pit fans against each other.

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil may not have pulled much from the world itself, but there’s no denying the formula, spirit, and tone of the games is there. If you have played a Resident Evil game you can see the formula. However, that alone can’t carry an RE adaptation. WTRC suffered in a similar way. They had game characters on screen with the iconic locations but butchered the story. Cregger had the gameplay formula, but hardly nothing from the world itself. Now if we can get a RE film with both of those elements combined, we would have the best live action adaptation yet. #ResidentEvilㅤ #REBHFun

Zach Cregger has the best opportunity to course correct this new movie series. Make Umbrella more relevant, explain the virus, use BOWs from the games, and most importantly make it feel associated with the world of RE. #ResidentEvilㅤ #REBHFun
