Q-Tip made the "Electric Relaxation" beat in Phife Dawg's grandmother's basement. She'd given him a key. Phife came home, heard Ronnie Foster's "Mystic Brew" drifting up from below and ran downstairs without even saying hi to grandma: “Yo, what the hell is that?!”

America isn't witnessing the rise of fascism. It's watching its own fascist foundations become impossible to conceal. The empire isn't abandoning its traditions; it's doubling down. The mask is slipping, and the ruling class is done pretending. #USImperialism

Not enough people know this: in practice, the IMF is controlled by the US. The US is the only country that has de facto veto power at the IMF because the biggest decisions require an 85% supermajority of total voting power. The US' vote share is 16.5% This was by design, and the supermajority threshold was actually moved in 1978 so that the US vote share would continue to give the country veto power. We should not see the IMF as an organisation that serves global development. We should see is as an organisation that serves mainly Western interests — and, above all, US interests.

The people of France protesting on the 65th anniversary of the slaughter of unarmed Algerians protesters opposing the enforcement of a racist curfew is amazing.

Stop saying "Capitalism is good on paper". No it's not. It's stupid on paper and even more stupid in practice.

Capitalism has enclosed the entire planet. There is no frontier to escape to. No new world to colonize. No outside to flee to. The only option is to fight here, together.

The U.S. is a high gross income, low net living standard country. It pays high wages and then takes them back through privatized costs that other high-income countries socialize. The working class here is more indebted, more precarious, and more alone.

One of the most important lessons of African history is that independence and liberation are not synonyms. Independence gives you a state. Liberation requires the power to determine its economic, political and strategic direction.

Liberals are smart enough to know the US has plunged headlong into fascism. They're smart enough to know that the Dems aren't an actual opposition party but more of a "good cop" for capitalism. They just won't ditch the Party because they fear losing their position in capitalism.

For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026. At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day. It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime. Massacre at Minab: The School That Became a Grave dropsitenews.com/p/minab-sch… Please share this story with as many people as you can.

Imperialism is not simply a foreign policy. It is the international expression of an economic system that constantly seeks new resources, markets, labour and spaces for the expansion of capital. Understand the economic structure, and much of the political behaviour becomes clearer.

also makes it incredibly tiring when so many Nigerians and some other continental Africans act like they don’t understand racial dynamics
people being shocked that Nigeria had areas segregated for whites only. wait until you guys hear about the European Quarters. that’s why whenever ppl claim segregation is only an American thing I roll my eyes

Pierre writes primarily about Ghana in this book. But she helps us see how race, as a modern and colonial institution, shapes outside/living/recreational spaces, trade hierarchies, colorism, and segregation in West Africa. Not only a Southern Africa, American, or Caribbean issue.
My dad was born into Nigeria when it was still a colony. Towns were segregated so white tourists could easily come and go. He witnessed the first ever independence day. But according to Europeans, it was “400” years ago.
