Australia used to make things.
Today I visited the shuttered BHP Nickel West smelter in Kalgoorlie with Rick Wilson.
Last year this facility sadly closed after BHP adopted a "green net zero" strategy to make nickel. And Indonesia built coal fired power stations to fuel new nickel smelters.
Indonesia won and thousands of Australians lost their jobs.
We need to dump net zero because it is just a scam that transfers our wealth and our jobs to other countries.

A coal plant running only three weeks since April shows it was essential for reserves, not wasteful. The Denver Post headline has it backward. Wind production can crash to 6% of capacity when expected over 40%, and neighbors often have none. The alternative is blackouts costing $130 billion like in Texas.

AEMO has just blown out the cost of Australia's Net Zero grid to $128 billion and now says coal must run until 2049 to keep the lights on.
Wind forecasts for 2030 have been slashed from 42.6 GW to 26 GW, with offshore wind now admitted to cost 40% more and deliver far less power.
Transmission--the backbone of Net Zero--has been slashed from 10,000 km to 6,000 km after cancellations and cost blowouts of up to 100%.
Coal remains indispensable, says AEMO, and the country's fleet must run 11 years longer than previously promised to stop blackouts and cover stalled renewable build-out.
Reliability risks are also rising. Aging coal is being driven past design limits and a failure at any major plant could destabilize the grid.
Gas becomes the strategic backup when solar collapses at dusk and during multi-day wind lulls -- the exact conditions that already triggered emergency warnings this year.
Every pillar of the plan--wind, transmission, timelines, costs--has been revised, delayed or downsized.
Net Zero didn't replace coal, it extended it to 2049.

Indonesian rainforests are being destroyed just so electric vehicles can drive a little farther.
Open-cast nickel mining on Sulawesi and Halmahera is tearing through pristine rainforest to feed EV battery production.
Tens of thousands of hectares have been lost, CO2 released, and species decimated.
Electric vehicles sold as "green" are driving deforestation, pollution and toxic runoff that is now reaching coral reefs.
And cobalt mining in the Congo even adds child labor to the mix.
Net zero isn't saving the planet, it's tearing it up.

Chinese export controls now extend beyond refined critical metals to specialized industrial equipment, including tunnel boring machines (TBMs).
TBMs are the most common way of building underground road and rail infrastructure... and they are also increasingly used in mining.
TBMs have been used in underground mine development at several copper, coal and platinum-group-metal operations in the US, Australia, and South America.
Over the past 20 years, Chinese-produced TBMs have grown from ZERO to 60-70% of the global market share, producing approximately 250-300 TBMs per year... approximately half of which are exported. So, we suspect that this news will cause a PANIC in the global TBM market.
We plan to use a TBM at our Santa Cruz copper project in Arizona to develop mine access from the surface. Fortunately for us, the US has its own TBM manufacturer, @Robbins_Co, and earlier this year we purchased a 9.3-metre diameter Robbins TBM for Santa Cruz.
So this news won't disrupt our development plans at @ivanhoeelectric... others may not be as fortunate.

Diesel prices rose 54% in the US and nearly doubled in Australia, according to the World Gold Council’s first-quarter report.
Record gold prices still generated unprecedented margins and cash flows, as the rise in the average gold price far outpaced cost increases.
But the council warned that the industry’s resilience could be tested following gold’s pullback from its January peak.
Newmont estimates that every $10-a-barrel increase in oil prices adds $110 million, or $21 an ounce, to its production costs.
