Nintendo Switch 2 has the best game lineup of any console in history.
Suppose you never owned a Nintendo before, but a Switch 2 and you have access to basically every Pokemon, Kirby, Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Minecraft, Fortnight, Elder Scrolls, Tomb Raider, Dragon Quest, Dynasty Warriors and Monster Hunter games ever game.
Price is justified.
The Nintendo Switch 2's $499 price tag is becoming harder to justify, but its growing game library may be Nintendo's strongest selling point. gamerant.com/nintendo-switch…
Since when is good game design “shove millions of random stuff everywhere just to keep people occupied”?
Ocarina of Time is a product of its time, and rightly so. Design elements in that game didn’t exist in 1998. Targeting, third to first person switching, the concept of mounts, context adaptive music… let alone cinematic storytelling…
Are the puzzles basic? Probably. But Ocarina is an adaptation of NES and SNES titles. Puzzles had to reflect those of earlier titles because that’s what the series is. But there’s enough newness.
Games back then lacked the ability to be massive in scope, or focus on exploration as a game mechanic. But Ocarina on N64 somehow managed it.
I would argue that had Nintendo thrown out everything about the original and made it more akin to Breath of the Wild or completely redesigned every single element, that would be the direct opposite of what they set out to accomplish: a love letter to fans, a way to bring family members together with nostalgic memories and new discovery.
Nintendo wouldn’t take the story and throw out everything else about it, they’d sooner make a whole new game.
I also want people to understand that Ocarina on Switch 2 is doing a few jobs other than stroking our nostalgia itch: it’s promoting the series, and serving as a toe dip into the Zelda cinematic expression that we’re going to enjoy next year when the movie launches.
I disagree with Mahler. I wouldn’t say Ori is anywhere near as innovative, fun, ambitious or worthy as universal praise as Ocarina.
At the end of the day, if a game is fun and people love it then the developers have done their job.
Another thought people might hate me for: a technically brilliant game can and often is boring.
Is it technically brilliant to offer a skill tree that allows super fine tuning of characters so that weapons do 1 extra point of damage when you hit the secret edge of a hitbox with a weapon you mined resources for and crafted with a convoluted customisation engine? Sure. Is it fun? Universally enjoyable? Something anyone from 10 to 100 can sit down, relax, understand, talk about, relate to and discuss enjoy?
I doubt it.
Ori and the Blind Forest director Thomas Mahler has harshly criticised Nintendo's new Ocarina of Time remake, arguing that it feels "emptier and more confused" compared to other Zelda titles, like A Link to the Past.
Mahler notes that he was never a big fan of Ocarina of Time to begin with – giving the original game a score of 7.5-8/10 – but he argues that its remake doesn't address any of the perceived flaws in the title.
He particularly criticises the design of OoT's overworld, Hyrule Field, stating that, although it does look prettier in the remake, "it's still just as empty and uninteresting as it was back then."
Mahler finds "it quite disappointing that Nintendo's designers apparently decided against really flexing their creative muscles" with regards to level design and the interplay between the overworld and dungeons.
He claims that a truly competent designer could have improved the game "by understanding what makes the Zelda formula work and then consistently questioning whether the moment-to-moment experience is actually enjoyable."
Mahler then caps off his statement by lashing out at "the international gaming press" for "behaving like a bunch of graphics wh*res," as the good graphics in the OoT remake don't equate to high-quality gameplay.
"Giving Ocarina of Time a 10/10 for its design," Mahler argues, shows that "a lot of games journalists don't really understand" what good game design should look like.
Do you agree with Mahler's argument, or do you think he's off on his assessment of the remake?

Live shot of Nintendo’s courier who has my copy of Ocarina of Time and is robbing me of my Zelda time after I cancelled all my meetings and risk losing my employment to play this game because some things in life are more important than food
Doom! Gloom! Speculation! Oh wait, Nintendo has other suppliers like Rohm, and Lapis, and MegaChips, and Samsung, and LSI Logic.
And Macronix isn’t done yet anyway, they haven’t exactly said they won’t supply their customers contracts, have they?
These Nintendoomers never give up
Famitsu has scored Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 a 9, 9, 9, 10 making it one of the highest rated games in the magazines history.
The original Nintendo 64 version scored 10 by all reviewers, the first game to achieve a perfect score.
Can’t wait to get back into Hyrule tomorrow!
I have to say, this style of Nintendo Switch 2 reviews annoy me because they’re reviewing based on other versions being available. That’s an important metric, sure, but it’s not the only metric.
Is the game fun? That’s the main question reviews need to answer.

Congratulations @RockitGamesNOW and @ArgonautGames_ for finally getting Croc Collectors Edition out! It looks great. Sadly my statue arrived slightly broken 😭 maybe I can glue it up
Multitasking in Call of Duty while being woefully bad at it 😅
The game holds up well on Switch 2 and mouse controls are a game changer. I turned off DLSS as it seemed to perform worse after the latest big update.
In this particular match most my team dropped for some reason and it was stacked against us, but it was still hopeless fun.
