🇬🇧 Peugeot 306 Cosworth The Andy Burton Peugeot 306 (often referred to as the Peugeot 306R4 or Peugeot Cosworth) is an iconic custom-built rally car in British motorsport history. Driven and engineered by Herefordshire farmer and rally legend Andrew Burton, the car became a fan favorite across UK forest rallies due to its incredible speed, unique engineering, and unmistakable engine roar.  Key Specifications & Features Engine: Powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre V6 Cosworth KF engine (a derivative of the engine Cosworth developed for Opel/Vauxhall DTM racing). It revved past 10,000 RPM, producing over 300 hp and an unforgettable exhaust note. Drivetrain & Chassis: While it used modified Peugeot 306 body panels, the underlying chassis and four-wheel-drive running gear were custom-engineered by Burton himself, incorporating parts from MG Metro 6R4 running gear and custom tubular space-framing. Layout: Front-mid engine placement optimized for weight distribution across gravel forest stages. History & Legacy Success on the Stages: Despite competing against heavily funded, factory-backed World Rally Cars (WRC), Burton’s self-built machine routinely won national and regional UK rallies outright, including events like the Malcolm Wilson Rally and Woodpecker Stages. The 2011 MSA Rule Change: At the end of the 2011 season, the UK Motorsport Association (MSA) updated its vehicle eligibility regulations for national rallying, effectively banning non-homologated, custom space-frame specials like Burton's 306. 😭 Burton officially retired the car following his victory at the 2011 Woodpecker Stages. It remains one of the most celebrated "special" rally cars ever built in the UK. 🎥 Credit to the original source 👏🏻👏🏻 #peugeot #cosworth #cars #rally

Test flying an idea for the replacement of the #MondayDoodle today. Appropriately, beginning with a tribute to the great #AlanJones for what *could* become “Memoriam Monday” (suggestions welcome for a title!), which will those from the world of motorsport, no longer with us.

Some fans may have chuckled seeing Tony Hulman glance at a slip of paper before “Gentlemen, start your engines!” This 1969 Daytona newspaper clipping helps explains why. Shy by nature and coached by IMS radio man Luke Walton on proper emphasis, the card helped him deliver the line perfectly. The quiet businessman who rescued the Speedway after WWII made those words legendary. #Indy500 @IMS
