This is called a 'shaming ritual'. It's the same ritual we saw with Carney and the floor-crossers.
Christine Lagarde is stepping down nine months early so the current pro-EU leadership can lock in her successor before the French election, when Marine Le Pen’s side is favoured to win. It’s dressed up as “personal” or “greater freedom to speak,” but the timing is pure political control. The institution and the political class get to manage the departure, so that no one they deem “wrong” can influence the outcome.
That’s the same play Carney ran with Marilyn Gladu and the other Conservatives who crossed. Parade them in front of the cameras, extract the public vow of loyalty to Liberal social policy and party line, and present it as a free choice. On the way in, you recite the creed. On the way out (or when you “fail” the club), you get the managed exit, the warm statements, the ovation, and the clear message that independence is not tolerated.
These aren’t independent institutions or free agents. They’re loyalty systems. You join on their terms. You leave on their terms. The ritual is the point.

Out of 123 press releases, statements, videos & speeches he said it 146 times!

Ursula von der Leyen leads the EU bureaucracy. They killed venture tech across Europe with red tape.
Now she’s announcing Canada can access 12 EU supercomputers.
That’s fine - but Canada does more trade with with a single US state - Texas - than all 26 EU nations combined - with more tech assets than all of Europe.
The EU visit is nice. But they’re an economic basket case.
It’s time to get a deal done with the USA.

Look up the capitalization of the New York Stock Exchange. It's worth more than all the exchanges of Europe combined. Europe is hopeless at this stage.
Total government expenditure of the European Union in 2024 accounted for almost 49.1% of GDP, which is set to exceed 52% in 2026. On the other hand, the U.S. federal government's expenditures in fiscal year 2025 account for only 23.3% of GDP.
Europe is in decline despite Macron saying otherwise.

We've cut virtually nothing out of USAID. The entire Serbian operation is still being funded. The gutless Rs on Capitol Hill and certain people in the administration didn't want to cut it.

Liberals just voted down Bill C-264, which would have repealed the unfair ban on shipping Canadian oil on the Pacific, turning their backs on workers in Western Canada.
Canadians deserve better.
