Barkerville is a national/provincial treasure. Almost losing the site to wildfire last year - highlighted the significance this site holds to our shared history as well as the importance to our regional tourism sector and economic diversification. #bcpoli @DestinationBC @HelloBC @DestinationCAN @CdnHeritage @spencerchandraherbert @IndigenousBC @SChandraHerbert

A bit of cool B.C. History ⬇️
#ProvincialFossil #Elasmosaur
Have you heard of the elasmosaur? In 1988, Mike Trask and his daughter Heather found the first elasmosaur fossil west of the Canadian Rockies along near Courtenay on Vancouver Island. In 2023 the elasmosaur became BC's official fossil: gov.bc.ca/ProvincialFossil

Please support the truth and healing legislation currently being considered by Congress.
“No president has ever formally apologized for the forced removal of Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian children — an element of genocide as defined by the United Nations — or any other aspect of the U.S. government’s decimation of Indigenous peoples.”
This is a huge shift in American Policy toward Indigenous Americans. One that has been in the making. Our Native Family is finally being recognized for their suffering and value to this nation. Good on Biden for being the one to finally do it.
Happy #NationalFossilDay! This day encourages people to discover the ancient history preserved in fossils, appreciate the work of palaeontologists and learn about Earth's prehistoric past. I am celebrating by sharing the new Provincial Fossil Emblem designed by @andyeverson
I love the new provincial fossil emblem! Artist @andyeverson has created an exquisite emblem for the provincial fossil in the style of the K’ómoks First Nation where the #elasmosaur fossil was discovered.

I’m in Poland for a few weeks which means I’ll be visiting a number of archives, mostly (but not entirely) related to WWII. First up: the Ringelblum Archive at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw. The records were compiled by the group Oneg Shabbat and (1/4)
underground hidden storage. This table shows the names of the authors of the records, with pull-out tabs to learn more about their involvement in Oneg Shabbat and their eventual fate. (3/4)
This final image is of one of the milk jugs used to store records before being buried in the ghetto.
I have worked with UNESCO records @BCArchives and found the public exhibit of this collection moving and inspiring. Great way to make info accessible to non-researchers (4/4)

Incredible first day at the @HeritageBCanada conference. The tour of the Brilliant Dam & surrounding area seamlessly wove together Sinixt, Doukhobor, & industrial history, illustrating overlaps & shared history. Learning from Audrey Repin, Shelley Boyd & JJ Verigin was an honour.

Heritage Branch celebrated the Provincial Fossil emblem designation today! Thanks to @lanapopham @RonnaRaeLeonard, members of the VI Paleontological Alliance and reps from the Courtney & District Museum for joining us.
