Sails have appeared on numerous occasions throughout vertebrate evolution, although they are quite rare in herbivorous taxa; here we have a beaked sailback, Our friendly poposauroid, the Lotosaurus :)

There are enough resources out there tho!
Skeletal reconstruction of Gavialis gangeticus, the indian Gharial, the shortest-limbed and most aquatic of all modern crocs, and like them, it was rather small-headed (with juveniles of 1:5 DCL/TL, to 3m+ adults between 1:6.3 & 6.8)

i had the opportunity to see the Herugavialis cairensis material and paper early to illustrate it ahead of time! congrats to Burke et al. (2026) on the paper

ALT at night by the shoreline of Eocene Egypt, a bright light illuminates a Herugavialis that's caught a pycnodont, seafoam crashes around the large gavialoid Herugavialis is a marine gavialolid (relatives of gharials and false gharials) that lived in Egypt. its morphology was relatively similar to extant ghavialoids, but it differs in key skeletal features, like the lack of a maxilla process within its lacrimal gland, a feature which all extant crocodilians have. another thing that makes it special is that its holotype comes from the same rock layers used to construct the Great Sphinx of Giza

A section of one of the paintings I did recently for the Schiele Museum of Paleontology. This one corresponds to the Triassic Burgersdorp formation, South Africa.

Some of the murals I painted for the Schiele Museum of Paleontology had extreme vertical formats, a compositional challenge but also an opportunity to craft something different from the typical panoramic views. This sketch corresponds to the Triassic Burgersdorp formation.

Meet Dilophosaurus Wetherilli! The apex predator of the early Jurassic! This giant theropod has two very characteristic crests on its head that gives it his name.
