Honeybee queens and workers share a genome, yet queens outlive the average worker by about 10-20x.
The difference is almost entirely dietary.
All honeybee larvae are fed royal jelly, but those destined to become workers are cut off after a few days.
Queens are continually fed on it, which triggers a slew of epigenetic and developmental changes that vastly alters their physiology, reproductive capability, and lifespan.

Q3 Shareholder Update β ir.tesla.com
Highlights
β FSD Supervised attach rate grew to over 75% of new vehicle deliveries in NA
β Unveiled the next-gen Roadster
β Record deliveries in Canada, Australia, Japan & Taiwan
β Tesla Semi now in volume production. Top variant can go up to 500 miles at a full 82,000 lbs while achieving efficiency of 1.7 kWh/mile β about a third of the energy a comparable diesel truck burns for the same load
β Ended the quarter with the largest backlog for our passenger vehicles in 4 years!
FSD Supervised
β 4 new approvals since Q2 (Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia)
β FSD is now live in nine EU countries & used by over 100,000 customers logging more than 160 million kilometers since initial approval
Robotaxi
β Deployed Cybercab into our Austin fleet
β Hit nearly 2 million cumulative unsupervised miles, 8x growth in the quarter
β Austin service now runs 6 am to midnight, with wait times continuing to come down as we add cars & improve the orchestration algorithms
β Added Grok to Cybercab with Grok Bot & Connectors, letting you interface with your inbox, calendar, files, chats and tasks, all by voice.
Transport, office & living room in one
Robotics
β Started production of @Tesla_Optimus on our high-volume lines in Fremont.
These are the first production-quality bots we've built, proving that the current manufacturing process for Optimus is suitable for a commercial product
SI Compute
β On track for 400 MW of training compute by year end, feeding both vehicle & humanoid autonomy
β Austin Fab construction continues, equipment commissioning planned for 2027
Battery
β Battery supply is still the limiter on how fast we ramp vehicles globally, so we're expanding on every front: pack capacity in Berlin, cathode and lithium refining in Texas, LFP cells in Nevada
β Shipped the first Megapacks built entirely with our own LFP cells
β Increasing 4680 output to support ramp of Cybercab, Semi & Model Y
Energy
β Megafactory Texas is up & running, with Megapack 3 production started
β Highest-ever order rate & backlog for energy storage
Grid constraints & power availability are making Megapack the answer for SI infrastructure demand: it excels at supplying large data center loads,Β smooths out demand spikes, helps new projects meet grid connection rules & makes the grid itself more stable
All with less local fossil fuel generation
Supporting Infrastructure
β Added 2,100+ net new Supercharger stalls, up 14% year over year

A milestone for the multitude of innovations that will follow.
"Why did they waste so much time making a flying car no one can use in the real world?"
Because not everything is about whether you can imagine it being useful to you. Because like art, sometimes we make things for the glory and challenge of making them. Because we don't know if what we'll learn will make your toaster work better and you'll never realize it because you take for granted that things get better without thinking through how that happens. Because you can't inspire people with toasters, but a barrel-rolling car that can drive upside down is absolutely setting someone on fire right now.
I'm not a car person and you shouldn't trust me with a rocket, but I want a roadster because I make art and that thing is absolutely a thing made for love and passion and I get that in my heart.
(Also because I'd look really cool in one.)π€£

Hard to think of a wilder product unveiling. Not sure how quickly drivers are going to be leaping over each other in traffic, but damn, this was a cool way to introduce Roadster to the world.

I wasnβt planning to spend my day digging into tonightβs Roadster reveal, until I looked closely at where and how Tesla is staging it.
Instead of using the showroom or test track at Giga Texas in Austin, invitations sent people ninety minutes north to Waco, right next to SpaceXβs McGregor rocket test site. Ahead of the original October 1 date, the FAA restricted airspace over the area up to 10,000 feet, and Tesla ended up delaying the whole event two weeks because of severe weather and wind.
Think about that from a physics standpoint. A two-ton car with four rubber tires planted on asphalt doesnβt care about crosswinds or airspace closures. You only worry about wind shear and go out to a rocket facility when the vehicle is planning to lose contact with the ground.

Today's the day π₯ The Roadster unveil is tonight, and the FAA just locked down the sky over SpaceX's McGregor site from this morning through Oct 31, ground to 5,000 ft within 1.5 nautical miles, with SpaceX as the point of contact.
A 16-day closure tells you tonight's show is only the beginning of what's being tested out there.
The FAA closed the airspace over SpaceX's McGregor site today, ground to 5,000 ft within 1.5 nautical miles, from midnight to 5:04 PM CT, with only aircraft under SpaceX's direction allowed in.
That's the day before Thursday's Roadster demo. No Oct 15 closure is listed yet, and whether today's TFR is related to the Roadster is still speculation.
