NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions. More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves. In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety. The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action. In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties. The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.” I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

A new parliamentarian has been elected in Israel. His name is Moshe Feiglin. His views? "Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy. We need to conquer Gaza and colonise it. And not leave a single child there. There is no other victory." Read that again. Worse than a Nazi.

I don't know where to begin with this level of ignorance. This is Carla, having purchased a painting from an exhibition. Delighted to find a 'special place in my office' for a scene of riot police at Drumcree, forcing a march down the road. This is why people are fleeing unionism

Spent some time around Moore Street this month. It's somewhere I would have walked through every schoolday at one time. Hard to believe that it has been let decay so much. A place central to our heritage, our capital and our radical past. Past time @GovIE stepped in!
𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐌 𝐌𝐎𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐓 Join us and demand the Irish Government take Moore Street into public ownership and create a 1916 Cultural Quarter, a place future generations can be proud of in the heart of Dublin 📆 Saturday 7th November, 1pm 📍Moore Street Bígí linn!

No. 10 knowing back in 1973 that the UDR was hopelessly infiltrated by the UVF and UDA, and actively engaged in murder, remains one of the most existentially shocking facts to emerge from the conflict. IMHO.

Sir, you lecturing anyone about a shared society is quite remarkable Your party held the First Minister’s office for almost 15 years, from 2007 to 2022. Where was this enthusiasm for equality, mutual respect and shared society during those years? And dismissing what happened on Garvaghy Road 30 years ago as irrelevant is extraordinary and exposes how little you understand your neighbours. The intimidation, violence and treatment of residents are precisely why this dispute cannot be understood without its history. You cannot demand respect for your traditions while dismissing the experiences and rights of the people expected to accommodate them. The Ministerial Pledge of Office applies to everyone, not just political opponents. If you want to debate the rule of law, let’s apply the same standards to every party and every community

There are pictures of you standing passively in the middle of a riot situation in Twaddell Avenue as the PSNI were being attacked. You told reporters you were there to calm the situation. There were loads of PSNI members hospitalised that day. You didn't do a very good job m8.
Tackling Sinn Féin’s Michelle O’Neill on breaching her Ministerial Pledge of Office - “to support the rule of law unequivocally”; - “to promote the goal of a shared society”. Instead she goes back 30 years to excuse intolerance & refusal. Certainly NOT a First Minister for All.

This sort of comment got Pat Finucane and Rosemary Nelson murdered. Shame on this fucking ghoul and Jim Allister nodding in agreement behind him. The Brits are at it again.
David Davis talking about supposed “IRA lawyers” in the Commons… Reminder that Pat Finucane was murdered less than month after Douglas Hogg MP, told the House of Commons: “there are in Northern Ireland a number of solicitors who are unduly sympathetic to the cause of the IRA.”

The characterisation of the large numbers of people - from diverse backgrounds - who exercised their human rights to protest peacefully and to free expression - in relation to the Garvaghy Road - remains highly problematic. A pause for reflection may be wise.

Just did a live interview on France24 to talk about my book. When I said the word genocide, a producer told the TV anchor to say that “it hadn’t been juridically recognized.” Obviously I refuted him immediately and said we are not going to have this debate 3 years into this genocide. He was taken aback and could hardly finish asking the following question…

I spent almost two weeks on the Garvaghy Road supporting the residents. I spent most of my time on the night watch until 6-7am depending on police activity. I managed to take a lot of photos of the Garvaghy Road at night to show how peaceful and well managed the protest was. While I expected a lot of abuse from loyalists, I was amazed at the amount of abuse and threats that came from Irish far right "patriots." Instead of supporting the residents the "patriots" sided with the loyalists. I should have expected this as many "patriots" marched and drank with loyalists during the various race riots and protests over the past year. They are absolute scum who contribute nothing to Ireland. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. A huge thank you to the residents of Garvaghy Road for taking me in and making me feel so welcome. So happy you got the peaceful outcome you all wanted. No going back. 🇮🇪

NI's double standards are clear. DUP’s Paul Givan caught lighting an illegal bonfire? A DUP department buries it with an advisory note. Michelle O'Neill stands on a road with residents? The PSNI rushes out interviews under caution. Selective justice at its finest.

Odd that families being burned out of their homes in July didn't "chill" unionism.
The scenes on Garvaghy Road chilled unionism: terror songs, balaclavas & lawbreaking worn as a badge of honour. Sinn Féin showed its true colours. By staying lawful & pursuing criminal and political accountability, unionism can expose who the real supremacists are.
