Dismantling systems that hold some back is the most effective way to remove the minefields.

Don’t encourage someone to leap if you don’t have the rope to fashion a net or when you don’t have the will to weave it. Belonging requires making it safe for someone to be authentic and to have their unique identities, gifts, and needs honored. #ChronicMigraineChronicles

As studies have shown, they’re also avoiding racism, bias, and microaggressions. If you’re defining “people” to include POC, and specifically Black people (which I really hope you are), you’re missing these important points, @AdamMGrant.
Hey leaders: If people aren't coming to the office, look in the mirror. They're not avoiding work. They’re avoiding toxic cultures, micromanagers, constant interruptions, and countless hours wasted commuting. If you want people to show up more often, make it worth the trip.

I’m reading The Invisible Kingdom rn. It is a beautifully written account of chronic illness & examines some of the gender, race, and financial resource-based biases in healthcare. I highly recommend, whether you struggle with chronic illness or not. #ChronicMigraineChronicles
I just learned that THE INVISIBLE KINGDOM is going to be translated and published in South Korea, China, and Taiwan. Excited that it can reach new readers abroad and so grateful to all those who have read it. ✨✨💕

We need joy now more than ever. So grateful for people like @Jeena_Cho, @EmbraceNYC, and @PaulaEdgar, who give me hope, community, and laughter and keep me fighting the good fight. Join us on Monday for a conversation on Finding Joy in Community with Each Other!
This conversation rocked my world. I don’t know what happens when @sarahnollwilson and I engage in discussion, but it is magical. Collaborative curiosity laced with laughter. Ahas flyin’ all over the place. Millions of mics dropped. 🎤🪄💫❤️🤯
This week on @ConvosOnConvos I sat down with @NehaMSampat to explore the truth behind Imposter Syndrome, and what goes into creating a culture of belonging. Listen Now: sarahnollwilson.com/blog/epi…

To address self doubt and disrupt Imposter Syndrome, senior folx need to share more about their missteps, and junior folx need to share more about their accomplishments.

Oh, and I shouldn't have to say this, but pay your AAPI Heritage Month speakers their worth! If you're hiring someone for a talk geared at equity while underpaying them, you're actually part of the problem you think you're solving.

This x 1000. How the system of bias and mini-me-ism breeds and feeds imposter syndrome. How the system is the cause, but the effect (self-doubt) is very real. And those trainings she wishes for ⬇️-thread to shake the system & help value folx unique qualifications? We offer them.

The messages you’ve received that you’re not good enough are fiction. The resulting feeling you have of self-doubt is real. Blame the system, and stop the harm. But also know that the impact of that harm is real, and you deserve to heal from it.
Replying to @jewelsfromjuana
In reality the root of this fraud feeling is a result of systematic bias & exclusion! & rather than naming that, society aka the academy found another term to cover it up & name the experiences of marginalized communities that places blame on the person rather than the system

Belonging requires being seen, understood, and VALUED for who you are.

Who gets to be the hero? I think about this a lot in terms of allyship and the celebration of white people who do right. @sarahnollwilson and I discussed this in a conversation we had last week. And it’s staying front of mind with the whole Eminem kneeling thing.

Exploitation of DEIB experts sends a clear message about how much an org actually cares about equity.

There's a big difference between USING someone's identity to make you LOOK good and VALUING someone's unique perspectives, experiences, and expertise to help you DO good. #Tokenization 101.
