A particular thank you to the local Bitcoin maxi community in South Africa. We see you and we love you. 🫡
The By The Horns podcast will continue, discussing Bitcoin from the South African perspective and the Bitvice team will no doubt continue their work in Bitcoin individually and within other great Bitcoin companies.
While this is a sad day, we are exceptionally proud of what we achieved, furthering the cause of self custody Bitcoin in South Africa. Not a single client is predjudiced as a result of us closing our doors, since every last client holds their own sats in their own self custody.
It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Bitvice will cease operations at the end of June.
We would like to thank everyone who believed in us, used our service and engaged with us over the past 2.5 years, its been an amazing #Bitcoin journey.
This is why you self-custody.

create a wallet with a passphrase, put the seed words in one part of the will and the passphrase in another doc that your family only gets access to when you die. They need to combine both to gain access to your sats

We are very excited to be working with @afribitcoiners to provide education to financial advisors on #Bitcoin
Does your financial advisor understand Bitcoin? It's 2023, he should.
great thread on hardware wallet security.
TL:DR - use a passphrase and use a Seedsigner
More of this is coming. I don't relish saying it, but I have "seen this movie before" and feel compelled to share my experiences with the larger bitcoin community.
Going to share some of my experiences and perceptions in a brief-ish 🧵...

It was an opinion piece of mine published by @BitcoinMagazine which got me a podcast interview with @Bitvice_ which led to @the_surfer_kids first Bitcoin donation. That's how this project started. Bitcoin Ekasi wouldn't exist if Bitcoin Magazine hadn't published that article🙏🏾🧡

if Bitcoin and Bitcoiners are to survive and keep the message on target, we are going to have to learn how to deal with trolls who spam the network. Just another boss to beat en route to the final boss.

There won't be even close to a UTXO per person in the world
Making "easy" bitcoin custody tradeoffs instead of security is high-time preference
When you stretch this out, even LN is pushing it
"Most ppl's wallet" will likely be some bitcoin based ecash tokens
8 billion ppl, and growing. transacting everyday, with the lowest friction money known to man, hundreds of personal transactions a day, trillions of b2b micro transactions, billions of market trades, trillions of zaps...
Think longer term. A Sat will be worth much more than you think.
Keep it safe not "easy"
