Many disabled people experience grief. The grief of losing your abilities over time. The grief of being abandoned by friends and family. The grief of never having the life you wanted. The grief of not being thought of in society. The grief of not being seen. It can be so heavy.

Do any of my fellow disabled people find themselves randomly mourning themselves and their lives, on occasion, despite being alive?

I have so much respect for women in academia. The intellect, discipline, curiosity and sheer perseverance it takes to build a life around knowledge is deeply admirable.

You gotta kill that fear of being seen because visibility is your birthright, people need to know you. In fact, think of showing up as putting out little signals that help your people find you. You’re not showing up for everybody, you’re showing up for your people.

This was the moment Giggs told Jay Z to hop on the Talking the Hardest beat and we got Welcome to the Jungle. The artistry.

Yesterday, I spoke on phone to Mrs. Gifty Arday to convey deepest condolences on the tragic loss of her son, Professor Jason Atta Kwei Arday. I informed Mrs. Arday that President John Mahama commiserates with her family at this exceedingly difficult time and has personally signed a letter of condolence which is being delivered by our High Commissioner to the UK. Prof. Arday was a great source of pride and inspiration to Ghanaians in his ancestral home, and many across the world. This is indeed our collective and terribly painful loss; we shall keep his family, students and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. As I assured Mrs. Arday in our solemn telephone conversation, Ghana will be present at his funeral to pay our respects. May Prof. Arday’s legacy help create a fairer, loving and just world.

A mural commemorating late Cambridge professor Jason Arday, who died after intense media coverage of plagiarism allegations, is displayed at London’s Notting Hill Carnival. It features student testimonies and challenges claims by Nathan Cofnas, who accused Arday of plagiarism.

reached the Caribbean, (then fed to sharks) and millions more were lost to the horrors of slavery. Carnival is a celebration of the lineages and bloodlines that made it. That’s why it’s so loud, so colourful, so free and so alive. We were never supposed to be here! We survived😭

For anyone who misunderstands the importance of Carnival, think about it this way… Caribbean people are direct descendants of the slaves that SURVIVED the most brutal, evil and barbaric system of human exploitation in human history. Millions were extinguished before they..

Carnival is, quite literally, Caribbean ppl celebrating not being slaves. Celebrating the fact we SURVIVED the most barbaric + most evil system of human exploitation in history. That’s why it’s so loud, so colourful, so free. It’s black joy. The antithesis of the far right

“Black excellence” is respectability politics. Why do we have to be excellent to get respect? Black people deserve to be mediocre. Black people deserve to be boring and not want to make a name for ourselves. We should be respected without impossible standards.
