Very sad news about Sir Patrick Stewart. One of the great actors of his generation who never forgot his #Yorkshire roots.
He was kind, humble & generous with his time when I interviewed him a few years back.

Gave me & countless others their best day as a Newcastle United fan. Sad to see Eddie go, but his name is etched into the club’s history as one of their greatest managers. #nufc

The Premier League PSR rules are about as fit for purpose as a chocolate teapot. Chelsea FC Holdings made a profit of £128m in 23/24 after selling the women’s team to itself. The parent company BlueCo 22 (which owns the men’s team, the women’s team and…Strasbourg) made a loss of £430m in the same period as cannot include intra group transactions in the group accounts. Richard Masters keeps a straight face and says Chelsea have not broken any rules…because the rules on these types of deals are full of loopholes.
If I was Everton or Forest would be livid.
Aston Villa are the latest club to explore the possibility of selling their women’s team to help comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).
One source, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, said Villa have been looking into a sale for the past 18 months, having recorded losses of £195million over the past two years – leaving them in danger of breaching PSR.
Chelsea helped to balance the books by selling their women’s team to the club’s parent company in a move which generated a profit of nearly £200m, paving the way for other Premier League clubs to consider a similar arrangement.

I’ve always really liked this latter day performance of Sloop John B by Brian Wilson and Al Jardine.
This is such sad news, but he leaves behind a musical legacy up there with the greatest. Such brilliant, joyous music. What a genius. God speed.

Things in modern football that I just can't understand: Aston Villa seemingly needing to sell players for PSR reasons. #avfc been a huge success story for last two seasons, have wealthy owners and clear plan to compete. But because of arbitrary number they might have to trade. #nufc progress hamstrung in similar way... while other clubs invest despite failure on the pitch. Madness

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made a series of claims about the BBC's coverage of events in Gaza on Sunday. We've looked at the claims - and the number of misrepresentations and untruths that they contained.

I decided to become a journalist aged fifteen after reading ‘1984’ and being appalled at the thought that governments could rewrite history. Orwell knew the USSR did it. Now China pretends the Tiananmen massacre didn’t happen. It did. I was there, and saw it for myself.
Incredible. Been watching Newcastle for 38 years & finally... #nufc

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US.
This pretty much sums it up

I don’t want to hear any Republicans talk about “freedom” unless they have the guts to call out Trump for the lies that he is telling about Putin and Ukraine.
It was Russia that started the war, not Ukraine.
Putin is the dictator, not Zelensky.
