The bizarre parallels, yet again. Brazil’s 2026 election, while not over yet, is looking so much like U.S. in 2024. The triumphant return of the “Tropical Trumps,” prevailing over an 80-something president who lost his touch (as if Biden never dropped out), as pocketbook issues, scandals and street crime led the electorate to cast aside the sins of the prior term — COVID response, scandals and January 8th (6th). Just like the U.S., a massive conservative wave election in Congress and governor’s races that — barring a surprise Lula comeback in 2nd round — will allow the Bolsonaros not just to return, but return more powerful than before, empowered to pursue agenda and exact revenge upon enemies including the so-called Deep State. The Brazilian variant may bring impeachment of Supreme Court judges and a purge of federal bureaucracy. Two countries, 5,000 miles apart, with so many important differences. On parallel tracks for a decade now, with Brazil consistently 2 years behind. Why? That’s a separate post.

🗣️ Marc Cucurella: The World Cup final completely changed my opinion of Leo Messi. From my perspective, he looked frustrated and desperate to win. After I simply asked him, as captain, to calm his teammates because I felt they were becoming too aggressive, I believe he portrayed our exchange to the referee as something it wasn’t. I never made any racist remark, and the whole incident left me deeply disappointed. That moment made me question the fairness of what happened. To me, honesty and integrity matter just as much as winning. If I feel someone has misrepresented my words, it’s difficult for me to trust or respect them in the same way again. Cristiano Ronaldo has been my idol since childhood, and my respect for him has never changed. I admire his dedication, discipline, and mentality. In my opinion, he has built his legacy through hard work, perseverance, and merit. That’s why he will always be my greatest football inspiration.

» ❌ 🎙️ @RadioTeleSuisse / @davidlemos

as a Spaniard, i'm utterly devastated to hear Trump wants to cut ties with Spain. how will we survive without lectures on freedom from a man who thinks paella needs ketchup? we'll try to cope with universal healthcare and 30 days of paid vacation. thoughts and tapas y'all 🇪🇸
NOW - Trump: "We're gonna cut off all trade with Spain, we don't want anything to do with Spain."

Probably the most honest and truthful assessment you will hear on Trump’s State of the Union address. I’m aware Ezra Klein is an acquired taste for some, but don’t let that get in the way of listening to the truth. With thanks to the New York Times Opinion desk for the clip. 🎥 TikTok - vm.tiktok.com/ZNR5WL5o4/

Bad Bunny's full message to ICE and all republicans during his Grammys speech is SO important: "We're not savage. We're not animals. We're not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans. Also, I want to say to the people...I know it's tough not to hate on these days, and I was thinking sometimes we get contaminamos. The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that's more powerful than hate is love, so, please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. If we don't hate them, we love our people, and we love our family. And that's the way to do it, with love."

Just spoke with a guy who owns a small business. Complaining about the fact that that he pays his employees $18-20hr (minimum) but the people who hire illegal aliens pay them $6.50 an hour and hurt his business. Many of the people threatening law enforcement and interfering with deportations are just mad that this system is coming to an end.
