Everybody’s freaking about our D and talking about trading Cowan or the farm for stay-at-home D to stabilize our ‘mobile’ defenders, but all we need to do is subtract one Morgan Rielly and this team is a contender. The renewed irrational love for him is bizarre. Softest D in NHL.
What a beauty this guy is! We’re so lucky to have him. What a brilliant waiver pickup by Tre and Chief. Unfortunately, that probably means he’ll be gone soon. I bet you his ‘expected’ goals aren’t great or something…
You know Stetcher is awesome when you realize that he’s doing what he’s doing with Rielly chained to his ankle. I’ll take the win but I’m not a fan of pond hockey that is being played this early in the season. #Leafs are coming out on top now but it won’t work in the playoffs.
Another totally ‘unexpected’ goal by the 4th line to bring the Leafs to even. Duhaime stays with the play and makes sure the puck is in the net.
#passionneversleeps
Look at my boy Zach MacEwen go on this shift! Teddy Blueger form Latvia finishes it off. This one’s for all the pussies whining about how the 4th liners aren’t ‘expecting’ enough goals.
#PassionNeverSleeps
You’ll be ‘expecting’ a long ass time for some do these lines to deliver those goals lol.
Yes! 5’10, 184lb. Let’s collect them all! He can’t defend or PK - that means he can ‘move the puck’! Go Smurfs Go!
Mentioned this on today's episode, but I really like Girard as part of the solution to re-work the blue line to get younger/more mobile.
PIT said they want to make room for some of the younger guys, and he's a UFA after this season, so don't need to worry about the tagging issue.
If you can find a way to swap out OEL for Girard on the third pair, I think it's a savvy move.
Used up and chewed up even though (because!) He contributed to #Leafs’ success and gave them a great deal. Meanwhile, Rielly’s still here with his inflated cap hit & no-move-clause giving up games every night. Message: The worse you treat the Leafs the better they’ll treat you.
An angle of Matthew Knies during the national anthem yesterday has surfaced, appearing to show a teardrop coming down Knies’ face 😭
Don’t know if it’s just lighting or something unrelated, but I feel like lots of Leafs Nation felt the same way seeing Knies in another team’s jersey last night 💙

“I tried to go legit and used Sportsnet for one season,” one respondent wrote. “But then they jumped the price up by 30 per cent. These companies don’t care any more. We’re just wallets waiting to be pilfered to them.” Me too - I was paying the bastards for subscription. Enough!

Keep doing what you’re doing tovarish! #passionneversleeps
Company man speaking - company being Ed Rogers’s company that he works for and that also owns the Leafs… Good for the leafs I guess…
Elliotte Friedman on The FAN Hockey Show says he thinks Easton Cowan has completely changed how the organization feels about him now. At the end of last season, if they felt Cowan could have gotten them something valuable, they would’ve moved on. They didn’t think he would have this kind of impact this year, and the way they feel about him has completely changed.
Friedman also added that he thinks the Leafs felt Marchenko was deferring to Matthews a bit too much.
So excited! Can’t wait to see him paired with Mo Rielly and moving the puck all the way to the Stanley Cup like they were always meant to do! We’ll never play in our zone again!
Rielly - Karlsson
McCabe - Raddyish
Stetcher - Blankenburg
Here’s a brief lecture from the most successful coach in the NHL this season for the idiots who believe in the doctrine ‘dump the puck bad’:
Mike Babcock on why Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are dumping the puck in more often:
“I can't go off what happened in the past. I can just go off puck decisions. We don't like to pass it in the track. We like playing in the O-zone and spend as much time there as we can because it's more fun. And so sometimes it doesn't matter how good you are, you got to make the D-turn every time down the ice.
So if you're less skilled, sometimes you put it in more often. If you're more skilled, you don't have to as much, but you still got to make the right play. They can't be leaving the zone with the puck because you made a hope play. So that's just our focus."
Reporter: “Is there a difference between a good dump-in and a bad dump-in in terms of where you place it?”
Mike Babcock: “Yeah, that's great. We talk about this all the time, even the coaches from, well, we made a bad dump. Yeah, but you forgot they had F3 and the guy was tracking you from behind, and you were just dying to get to the red line. What's a bad dump? You made them turn.
So that's a fantasy world we live in that you say, 'Okay, I'm going to lay it in the right spot every time.' Some nights their goalie's unbelievable with the puck, but if they're chasing you and they got you cut off, what do you do? You turn it over or you get it deep? Deep's probably better.” #LetsGoOilers
Thank you sweet Jesus!
Jim Hiller says Jake McCabe was held out more for precautionary reasons and appears to be ok.

Notes vs Blue Jackets
I feel bad for Columbus. You could build a contender out of the guys who left there because it’s Columbus Ohio, 3 of them on Leafs current roster: Marchenko and Roslovic who both scored and Bobrovsky who was enjoying a well-deserved rest tonight.

For those of us with a more sober demeanour, this is a welcome win against a team we should beat and useful points in the bank that we know we will need to be one of the 8 teams to continue into the postseason.

We will continue to pray for the health of our top 2 D and a trade of the worst defenseman in the league. We will hope that nights like this will fool someone into offering something for him and that the #Leafs management will have enough balls to force him into a trade.
