An investment for Canadians, by Canadians.

They don't like me telling you that Cohere is Palantir with a Made In Canada sticker slapped on.
Prime Minister @MarkJCarney said Canada is investing $1.6 billion in Toronto frontier AI developer @cohere as the "Canadian success story" targets a nearly $36 billion valuation in a new round of financing. betakit.com/canada-to-invest…

Here’s AFN National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak last week saying the major projects office — which Carney touted as doing sufficient consultation ahead of naming this oil pipeline in the “national interest” — “don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to First Nations.”

It’s the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Canada has a lot of work to do.
In some ways, we’re actually backsliding right now - from residential school denial to rights-busting "national building projects."
We gotta do a better job of defending Indigenous rights:

interesting how politicians across the political divide can unite to get behind AI data centres but never stuff like affordable housing, childcare, or wealth taxes that would benefit average people

Carney is more popular than ever.
He’s also, in my view, a very skilled propagandist. So it’s essential to cut through that for Canadians so they can be clear about exactly what they’re supporting.
That’s the focus on my new piece for @TheTyee.
I hope you’ll hear me out:

It’s a message that’s hard to get into Canadians heads right now because of the lunatic down south, but Avi Lewis is 100% correct.
Anne Frank wasn’t beat or shot to death.
She died of typhus due to unhygienic conditions in her concentration camp.
ICE isn’t just killing the people it shoots.
A detention center is just a death camp by a different name.
And they’re quietly murdering everyday.
I've started making it a tradition to throw some money out at charity every year for my birthday. If anyone has any spare dollars, please consider donating to @ThePCRF. Amidst the ongoing genocide in Gaza, children still deserve the opportunity to eat and play like everyone else.

So ethnic cleansing?
First Nations burn down with no warning or evacuation support leaving a 13 year old Indigenous boy with a boat to save everyone's lives and then it's just good luck?
Indigenous Services Canada says it will provide support after wildfires destroyed two First Nation communities.
But Canadian Press reporter Alessia Passafiume says there’s no information on whether ISC will help the communities rebuild.

So all the groveling and agreeing to all his terms and destroying our social safety net to build up a massive military and hiring 1000 RCMP officers for his border while building pipelines while the country burns all did nothing and things are worse now than they've ever been
