Brunswick Girls Lacrosse

📣 Long, but INSPIRING, post alert! On August 16, before the first bell of the school year even rang, a group of @BCSDBrunswickHS students sat down together to start planning. Not a homecoming theme. Not a class project. A campaign to help cure blood cancer as part of the @BloodCancerUtd Student Visionaries of the Year initiative. These students, led by Ellie Kunesh, Ian Boone, and Emma Karim, are the first in Northeast Ohio to officially join the Blood Cancer United Student Visionaries of the Year 2027 campaign (previously the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society)— and they're already building their team, mapping out events, and planning ways to fund research and support patients and families. Here's what you need to know about them: every single one has a "why." For many, it's personal. A parent. A grandparent. A friend. A classmate. A diagnosis that reshaped their family. They carry those names into every meeting, every ask, every event. That's what turns a fundraiser into a mission. And they're stepping into a legacy that's already remarkable. Over the past 10 years, 135 Brunswick students have raised $405,750 in the fight against blood cancer. Let that sink in — high schoolers, in one community, generating more than four hundred thousand dollars toward better treatments, better outcomes, and better days for patients. Which brings us to what makes this year different. Brunswick is $94,250 away from a cumulative $500,000 — and this group of students is the one that can get us there. A half million dollars, raised by young adults, from a single high school. That's not a fundraising goal. That's a legacy! But if you think this is only about the money, you're missing the best part. This campaign gives students the chance to lead. To pitch. To organize. To pour their time, energy, and passion into a cause that’s bigger than themselves!. To watch a community show up because they asked it to. Every dollar they raise fuels research and patient support — and every step they take builds the kind of person who spends a lifetime showing up for other people. That's the real return on investment. Stay tuned. We'll be introducing you to these students and sharing their "why" in the weeks ahead, along with details on the events, awareness efforts, and all the ways you can help. Team members include: Laura Abraham, Tyler Burk, Reem Dakdouk, Camryn Elish, Adin Evert, Dom Fenton, Noah Gibson, Liv Hruschak, Addison Ivory, Jillian Janke, Kiley Koval, Emilie Kunesh, Anthony Mendise, Kora Miker, Sventlana Milanovic, Elsie O’Connell, Allison Piatak, Leigha Piatak, Sid Ranganathan, Sean Romano, Taylor Rutledge, Madelynn Spernoga, Chloe Stevens, Jack Vidas, Callie Ziebert.
