We run our workshops in non-traditional spaces, an approach inspired by the ad hoc, impromptu theatre companies of the 70s and 80s. Shows were staged in back rooms, halls, schools, pubs, etc - an 'alternative' ethos that also gave birth to the Fringe. We follow their example.

Privatisation of British Library:
To be asset stripped, destroyed like water companies & Royal Mail:
BL management will close reading rooms, converting them into paid, private spaces operated by commercial company.
They propose outsourcing in-house security.
Stop this rip-off.

Travis Knight says that LAIKA will never use generative AI in their films.
βAI is theft. Itβs the ingestion of years and years and years of human creativity and ingenuity, regurgitated back. It has no humanity. It has no spirit.β

I don't want to βdownload the appβ to pay for parking. I don't want to βcreate an accountβ to see a menu. I don't want to βprovide feedbackβ on a 30-second interaction. I just want to exist in the physical world without a digital leash

Shout-out to the indie authors doing their own marketing on top of writing the actual books. You're running a whole business on top of the day job. I see you!

They still don't understand Gen X in the workplace.
We don't want free pizza parties.
We don't want mandatory team-building retreats.
We don't want motivational speeches about being a family.
And we definitely don't want another company-branded coffee mug.
You know what we want?
π° Pay us what we're worth.
ποΈ Let us take our vacation days without guilt.
π‘ Respect our time outside of work.
π€ Trust us to do the job we were hired to do.
π΅ Stop expecting us to be available 24/7.
We're not looking for an office to become our second home. We have lives, families, responsibilities, and better things to do than pretend a pizza party makes up for being underpaid and overworked.
Pay us fairly, respect our boundaries, and let us get on with our lives.
That's the perk. That's the culture. That's it. π

I cannot tell you how uninterested I am in flying cars when people who work 40+ hours a week can't afford rent or groceries.

Young people actively hate AI.
My two younger daughters are 19 and 18, both at universities - one in the UK the other in Italy. Through them, I happen to know quite a few kids their age.
And ALL OF THEM seem to universally hate AI.
To them it's "something old people invented that we now have to deal with... as if climate change wasnt enough"
AI is cringe. When they introduce me to their friends, they literally say "heyya, meet my dad, he's a software engineer but nonono, NOT IN AI, dont worry, hahah".
They hate it for flooding their social feeds with slop, ruining music, taking phone scams to the next level, also destroying careers & devaluing their hobbies - why become an architect, this skill is about to become worthless? Why learn a musical instrument if session musicians are already obsolete?
The outcome is interesting, though - they're spending less and less time on public social, meeting up IRL, moving their online lives into private group chats with actual verified friends. TikTok and Reels are increasingly cringe-something for old dudes.
Which, I guess, might be a net positive after all...

Using A.I. as a screenwriter is literally killing your chances of making it in a very difficult business to make it in, even with all the talent and craft. All you've got is your voice, and passion. Those are the things that make writing worthwhile and fighting for your story.

Remember when they sold us the slogan, βGo paperless, save trees, save the planetβ? Now we've gone digital, and it's consuming enormous amounts of water, destroying ecosystems, harming bees, and contributing to environmental damage on a scale paper never did.

I personally would never get behind a script that had A.I. write any portion of it. Not my thing. Hard enough to get a movie made, would never back one that didn't have a true writer who worked hard, rewrites, polishes, doing the work, and finding the magic along the way.

If your dream was to be a writer why are you using A.I. to write for you? The art of the written story has been around for 4,000 years. It needs you, an individual with human experience, tough or good, to tell it. Your unique life makes unique ideas, details, characters.
I came across a Reddit post that described AI in a way I canβt stop thinking about:
βAI allows the wealthy to access skills while stripping skilled people of their ability to access wealth.β
I donβt think Iβve ever seen the purpose of AI captured so brutally and accurately.
