Uganda’s current account Trade and Services deficit has worsened. The country’s trade deficit grew sharply, rising by US$1.4 billion to reach US$4.6 billion. This was mainly because of weaker prices for key exports like coffee and cocoa, lower tourism earnings, and higher oil costs. The goods deficit went up from US$2.4 billion in August 2025 to US$2.8 billion in August 2026, while the services deficit expanded from US$2.2 billion to US$3.3 billion, driven by more expensive freight charges. The primary income deficit also increased, moving from US$1.4 billion to US$1.7 billion. On the positive side, secondary income improved from US$2.7 billion to US$3.1 billion, supported by stronger remittance inflows.

Central Bank is doing what it can do to stabilize the Shilling by reducing the amount of money you are using to 'chase' the available USD. The only instrument that @BOU_Official has now to reduce the liquidity is to raise the Central Bank Rate from 9.75% to 12%. It is a double sword but we are hoping that within the next 3months , we shall have stabilized the problem. #Uganda #UgandaEconomy #PlenaryUG

We have been entrusted with the priviledge of citizenship to this beautiful land. I am priviledged to serve as the Minister at @MEMD_Uganda . Pledging to do my best to align our services to the aspirations of the nation and her people. I wish I could say it is going to be easy, No, it wont, but it will be done. I also wish I could say it will be instant, but no, it will take time. And I wish I could say I will do it alone (then I could just get up and do), but no, it will take a team. The One MEMD team. The nation at large, each playing it's role.

Before chasing the people of Bukedi out of the swamps , let us show them alternative livelihoods.
We are considered the poorest, after Karamoja.
We should not mistreat our people & leave them vulnerable simply because we want to protect the environment (the land is 68% swamps).
During #PlenaryUG , I prayed that before @min_waterUg chases the people of Bukedi (whose land is 68% water/swamps),an alternative livelihood is showed to them. The pain of poverty chases people in Bukedi to go to the swamps!
