No Dem wants to end poverty. How do I know? The Moynihan Report. If he was wrong, why haven't Dems ever tested his arguments? Bizarre that there's an actionable solution out there & none of the virtue-signalers care.
You don’t find it weird that not a single billionaire wants to end world poverty? Doesn’t it strike you as bizarre that no one with that kind of wealth wants to be the hero who actually solves the world’s biggest problems when they literally could? Isn’t that suspicious?

I just do not have the personality type that responds well to the beggars of political campaigns. Obviously I'm in the minority, but every text I receive hardens my heart to the individual, cause, & party. I hate you.

There is no spending as extravagant and wasteful as government spending and billionaries are smart to not want to give the government an extra dime.
What amazes me is the attitude of so many of the centibillionaires. A 5% tax will not make any difference to the way they live. Their spending may be extravagant, but it is still much less than their (correctly measured) income. They know that, as gifted as some of them indeed are, they have benefited from extreme luck (and the help of the state, and, to speak like an economist, monopoly rents). They know that their effective tax rate is low, relative to what many others pay. They know that extreme inequality is extremely unpopular, and can lead to political unrest, backlash, or worse. They must admit that, morally, it is hard to argue for a society in which some become obscenely wealthy, while so many are poor and see their income stagnate. They typically have not indicated that they are building their wealth to eventually make the world a better place. But they are still willing to fight the tax, spending hundreds of millions in California to avoid paying the tax. Why? They simply think what is theirs is theirs, end of story. They believe in the slippery slope, and if they do not take a stand on this levy, the government will come back for more. They hate the state and the notion that their money will be misused? Or?

Ireland is now a country where grandparents naturally expressing their affection for their grandchildren is dubious, but men chestfeeding babies for sexual gratification is perfectly fine.
The latest ad from the Irish Government to the Irish people, who are the font of all problems in the country and desperately need to be stopped from their bad behaviour. This time, it's hugging your grandkids.

This is a good thing. Humanities PhDs have been massively overproduced for a long time. It was irresponsible of universities to keep minting them, assuring their recipients, "There's always a place for good people in this field." There's not and there hasn't been for a long time.
🧵The number of humanities dissertations produced annually has declined by almost half, according to a new analysis. The same report shows that language related to power and identity surged while treatments of “Western,” “European,” and “American” turned increasingly negative.

NEW: Another insane one involving Fairfax County, VA. A Tunisian illegal alien w/ 30+ arrests and 90+ felony & misdemeanor charges throughout northern VA who routinely has his charges dropped & ICE detainers ignored is back in local custody again. @NickMinock reports Fairfax DA Steve Descano botched a felony drug case against him last week that could have put him in prison for up to 40 years. Descano’s office failed to publish a witness list as required by a judge’s order, resulting in certain witnesses not being able to testify, and the case was dropped because of Descano’s error. Now he’s arrested again - this time in Arlington County, VA.

The thing where one is obliged to pretend to believe this obviously false but politically convenient statistic in order to remain a liberal in good standing is one of those things that used to just kinda grate on me but after 25 years has driven me fully up the wall

If California has no way to verify voters’ citizenship, how can our state officials know that non-citizen voting is rare?
Massive concession: Los Angeles election officials just told a federal court they have no independent way to verify citizenship beyond what voters attest. (They simply take their word for it.) Under federal law, only citizens may vote in federal elections. Yet California has not acted on the list of 20,000 suspected noncitizens or agreed to set aside their ballots. American citizens’ votes are being diluted in California.

Massachusetts levied a 4% surtax on income over $1 million. The California wealth tax is a 5% tax on all wealth, which could bring the total tax take to over 100% of annual income. Magnitude matters.
The problem is that we have tons of evidence that rich people actually don't leave because of higher *income* taxes. We even have recent examples like the MA millionaire tax. So the question is why is a wealth tax different? It could be, but I'd like to hear the argument why.

“No political party is willing to state the truth, which is that France has been living beyond its means for decades, and must make massive cuts across the bord to stay fiscally viable.”
The French riots are what happens when a country can no longer fund the promises it makes to its citizens. Riots like this just happened all across the Third World, as rising prices outstripped the (huge) subsidies governments pay to keep fuel affordable for the lower middle classes and below. In France, state spending makes up an astounding 57.1% of GDP, higher than in many Communist nations. 15% goes to public pensions alone. France has established a baffling and complex network of subsidies and tax rebates and cash transfers which mean just about every person living in France receives some benefit from the French state. Meanwhile, GDP growth has been either modest or stagnant for years. The French economy simply doesn't generate enough added value to pay all its bureaucrats (and their pensions) and finance all of its benefits and subsidies. France's state debt is already high and increasing rapidly. The French political class, like the political class in many Third World countries, is part of the problem. No political party is willing to state the truth, which is that France has been living beyond its means for decades, and must make massive cuts across the bord to stay fiscally viable. The majority of the French have been conditioned to believe that their right to various subsidies, such as "free" university educations, agriculture subsidies, government pensions etc., are inalienable: "How dare you balance the budget on the back of students / small business owners / artists/ public employees / farmers / the disabled / immigrants / pensioners / child-care workers / stay-at-home mothers / police," etc. It's a war of all against all for an ever-shrinking pie. It will get progressively worse until French voters are willing to support politicians who tell them the truth. Or until France is forced to seek a bailout from the EU or the IMF. Which is much more likely. edition.cnn.com/2026/10/19/e…

I remember when the George Floyd riots started making their way down here to the South and our local sheriff went on the news and told them that he would not be prosecuting any business owners or home owners that shot protestors engaged in the destruction of property. The scheduled protest lasted about 6 hours and was confined to a single street downtown near the courthouse with everyone on their best behavior.
BREAKING: Inspired by France, young second and third-generation migrants started looting stores in Milan, Italy around 2 hours ago. International mainstream media isn’t showing just how bad things are in Europe.
