On November 6, 1990 Ann Richards was elected to serve as the 45th Governor of Texas, making her the second woman chosen to lead the state.
Under her leadership, she improved Texas education, accomplished prison and criminal justice reform, authorized audits of state agencies that saved Texans 6 billion dollars, and made sure the Texas government looked like the people it served.
