A reminder: In a grant proposal, don't tell reviewers what you could perhaps do. Tell them exactly what you plan to do. If you don't know what you plan to do before writing, you have violated the first rule:
No one should write a grant proposal without thinking first.

This is excellent advice. The specific aims page is probably the most important part of your grant application. Get a solid draft of it together BEFORE you start writing the research plan, revise it often, and when you’re really happy with it, your grant is probably done.
Greybeard #NIH grant reviewer here. Most Specific Aims pages only make sense after reading the rest of the grant. The Aims page needs to stand alone and make sense. All info that reader needs to understand that page needs to be ON THAT PAGE. Yes, It's not easy.

TIL: On NIH grant review panels, scores (1-9) from reviewers who never read your grant are weighted THE SAME as ratings from those who read it closely.
Scores from reviewers who didn't read your grant are based on an 8 min talk + 5 min discussion led by the 3 people who did.
