On this day in 1987, during a break in the BAD World Tour, Michael Jackson spent roughly seven hours in China mainland of Zhongshan, Guangdong. He wandered the stone paths of Yongmo Village, captivated by the rice fields, water buffalo, pond ducks, and simple farmhouses. He greeted local children with genuine warmth, posed with an elderly villager, later leaving her a gift of money. Before leaving he remarked that the green scenery reminded him of Switzerland.
