I'd hire Kelly Johnson in a heartbeat. Blackbird forever 🚀🇺🇸
Yesterday NASA announced it is speeding up the Moon program. The way it's speeding up is by sending the next crew to low Earth orbit instead.
I’ve been silent for a few cause we’ve been racking up customers and prepping for our next round but NASA’s announcement caught my attention.
A quick thread 🧵
1/
I spent two decades+ flying heavy jets, so I'm fluent in this dialect. "Minor delay" means grab a sandwich. "Accelerating" means we moved the goalposts and called it momentum.
2/
To be fair, the boring part of the announcement was the good part. Freeze the vehicle. Fly it more often. Add capability one flight at a time. That isn't a moonshot philosophy. That's a Tuesday at any airline on Earth.
It's why the jets I used to fly didn't get a press conference every time it pushed back from the gate.
And the industry is clearly listening.

Rocket Lab just put up launch number 19 for the year. ESA dropped a spaceplane prototype from altitude and the parachute decided to sit this one out, which is fine, as long as the lesson landed somewhere more durable than a Slack thread. The FAA is trimming the review process so companies can move quicker. Getting to orbit has never been this routine.
4/
Which raises the question nobody asks at the podium: when the launch cadence goes weekly, what happens inside the facility?.
5/
Because the satellite still shows up in a crate. Someone still opens it by hand, inspects it by eye, fuels it by procedure, and integrates it according to a workflow that lives in three places: a binder, a spreadsheet, and the head of some guy called John whose about to retire or because they were a wrench tech on starship who knows why step 14 comes before step 9.
6/
We standardized the rocket. We're still processing the payload like it's a custom wedding cake.
That's the gap where schedules go to die. It's also where the next ten years of margin are hiding.
7/
We are working on that part. Spoiler: it isn't a rocket.

A lot of people and by people I specifically mean “founders” and “investors” start companies not because they are entrepreneurs or want to actually make the world a better place but simply because they want to get rich. That is almost always the wrong reason to do it. Money is a byproduct not the end game.
That was evident back when I was investing into founders and GP’s myself.
I first heard of foursquare back in 2011/12 in the city at some tech event(I think), and thought their company was pretty cool…. The NYC founder circle in the city at least the ones I was part of were pretty small back then. I can name names on my fingers of the few folks who are still in the game from back then. Learning a little about this company and its folks(never met anyone from it to be clear), and following their milestones for a bit was pretty cool. At that point I had not dipped my toes into building….. yet.
I always had tremendous respect for anyone building anything and admired all of them from afar but I think he reason I write this is because this was one of the many companies that inspired me to pull the trigger on starting something back in the day!.
Startups are hard.
Obviously this is a sad outcome but not the only one. Kudos to this CEO for sharing their story but just know your story had an impact on a lot of future builders.
Foursquare was acquired last month. The outcome was disappointing. It's taken me a while to write this, but I think I'm finally done grieving it. Here are some thoughts on our final years, an effort to honor the team who helped build & maintain FSQ's legacy, and my attempt to finally get some closure. teendrama.substack.com/p/som…
Great advice for anyone whose just starting out and shit for those whose also got a second wind!!!.
If you are an ambitious young person
I still believe joining @SpaceX is one of the best career decisions you can make
The world is pivoting from bits to atoms and there is no better training ground for atoms than SpaceX
It may feel late but it's early

This New Yorker makes a lot of sense!.
Let me explain reality… if you have but sixty seconds:
They were targeting Elon
They were targeting him with fake charges because the socialist-industrial complex is terrified that he would expose their long grift.
They came after him for the Model 3 and Elon’s claims around its potential.
That potential was realized, and it became, along with the Model Y, the best-selling electric vehicle ever created.
These were fake charges to try to stop somebody from building the best category-defining product.
Let that sink in: that's how evil these motherfuckers are.
The loooooong grift has been exposed: socialist grifters are stealing our tax dollars to fund fringe lunacy, NGOs and government programs without oversight or audits.
They’re parasites incapable of creating any product or service that has to compete in the open market.
Elon creates a couple of cutting-edge products each year, and half of them succeed.
Some of them actually change the world. Some of them fail brutally.
It's called capitalism. It's called creation.
This is what moves the human condition forward: trying things.
Trying really hard things.
Socialists come for the people building valuable products and services — that’s the tell
Keep your eye out for the people who've created nothing and risked nothing, but who are attacking the people who risk everything to create Something.
That's the tell.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets …
