Since Josh Heupel took over in 2021, Tennessee has had one of the highest penalty rates in the SEC even after adjusting for tempo.
Rough estimate:
• ~180 expected points lost to penalties
• ~3 points per game
• Potentially 4-6 wins left on the table

College football officiating is overdue for a full reset.
→ Officials employed by an independent body (not the conferences)
→ Crews randomly assigned with full rotation
→ All camera angles + official audio made public
→ Any penalty challengeable — failed challenge costs a timeout

It is AN INDICTMENT on Hazlze. Never heard him do this. He's got clout and he's got connections.
The WR who ran downfield on the beautiful TD pass to Mike and was called back ... had NEVER PLAYED A DOWN IN SEC PLAY!
He was put in over Braylon. Why???? I've been frustrated with Bray but the bigger ? to me is this total BS having mental effects on some of our starters????? Bray doesn't make that mistake. And that was a TD that would have been a dagger!!!
Also, he's really calling out ST coach.
Oh and Matthews makes it clear he doesn't blame the true freshman kid. The moment is too big for him. Put your BEST and most experienced players in there!
This Coach is in over his head. Also if Hazlze isn't fired ... Heupel needs to be. Period.

I’ve said this before and will offer it again. When Josh Heupel says in a presser some version of, “We as coaches need to get better” I’d like to ask him, “Coach what, specifically, do you mean you and your staff need to get better on because with as many things as your teams do right, I’ve seen the same mistakes - or lack of discipline - in many Tennessee games for six years.” I’ve asked that question, or versions of it, in other pressers I’ve been at when a coach has said that. Never disrespectfully! Just genuinely wanting to hear some specificity that allows us a better look into what he’s thinking.
Take tonight to burn a mattress or smash some mustard bottles against a wall. It sucks and it’s gonna happen every year. But snap and clear because it’s Kentucky week starting tomorrow and we can get a big win if we bring our all as fans and make Neyland special.

I’m not remiss on the undisciplined nature of our football team. Heupel’s teams have always been too undisciplined.
And, I don’t know how you come out of a timeout on 4th and 1 and have a busted play.
George is still a young QB, but I generally like what he’s shown.
I still can’t believe Heupel tried to run on 4th and one with George on a QB sweep. Hand that ball to Brame and the game is over.
