This discussion that has been making the rounds on social media the past few days has convinced me more than ever that the general population has no idea what goes into medical training or even which parts of the training are the most important
Assume you live in a world where everyone is of blue race. Your 3yr old is very sick. Doctor A scored 80th percentile MCAT, comes from a poor background. Doc B is in the 99th percentile, comes from wealth. Who would you choose to perform lifesaving surgery on your child?

Here’s a nice analysis of 2.5M children about Tylenol and autism. The study found a small association between tylenol use in pregnancy and autism, but the association went away in sibling analysis. In sibling analysis you compare children born to the same mother where one child was exposed to Tylenol but not the other. This is a better comparison because genetics are similar between siblings whereas they differ greatly in non siblings from different families. Bottom line: no increased risk of autism with tylenol use in a huge population analysis. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

An excellent, clear review: Are Childhood Vaccines ‘Overloading’ the Immune System? No. Vaccines today are more efficient and contain far fewer stimulants to the immune system than some used decades ago. nytimes.com/2024/12/14/healt…

In the US, your child is more likely to die from a gun than a cancer or a car accident. That’s it. That’s the tweet.
If you want to ban AR-15s, you are an enemy of the Second Amendment. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

I’m not a surgeon, but I may have been had #gensurg looked like this 10 years ago when I was matching. I rotated on surgery in a department almost all older white men. Toxic culture was prolific. Male attendings would prey on female med students & residents…@TheNRMP #match2023

Number 3 hits hard…
Ways to increase efficiency as a med student: 1. Full sprint to and from patients rooms 2. Eat lunch and breakfast at the same time. You know what, might as well throw dinner in there too 3. Be smarter

Do you know what we call alternative medicine that has been proven to work? Medicine. What do we call alternative medicine that has been proven *not* to work? Pseudoscience.

if you’re at Thanksgiving and someone says their decision to not get vaccinated doesn’t affect anyone else, cut your slice of pie like this to demonstrate how that is very untrue

All immunity against disease is natural. We can generate that natural immunity dangerously, by getting sick, or more safely, by getting a vaccine, but it's still all your body doing its thing

The human brain is incredible. It’s capable of both engineering a life saving mRNA vaccine and deciding that anti-parasitic cattle paste is a better option. Just unbelievable range.
