Well done to all at @BatTheMusical for Wednesday's show under difficult circumstances. I really hope that @LukeStreetUK is OK and congratulations to @reecejduncan on an amazing performance (what a voice!) at switching at such short notice 🦇

Angry & disappointed by government decisions on gender policies. Trans people weren’t even consulted about their experiences. I can’t comprehend the mental gymnastics supposedly intelligent people did to make this decision with no attempt at real investigation, empathy or respect

Seeing out 2024 in quite possibly the cosiest way possible - tea and biscuits ready, Christmas lights twinkling, stovefire roaring, dog cuddled up snoring and @mischiefcomedy movie nights playing. Happy New Year, I hope 2025 is a peaceful one for us all ❤️

Look what arrived today! Starship Troopers is such a great film, and unfortunately only becomes more relevant in these Trumpy days. Thanks to Melody Blackmore, @baconetti and Elana Gomel and well done everyone in this cool collection (look at that beautiful cover!)

I don’t know what to say. I don’t understand how so many people can’t see it. I am angry and disappointed and frustrated. I am scared for people I love and for the world at large. American friends, I am so sorry.

This time last year, in what might have been the ultimate Halloween set-up, I was in Derry with a whole load of horror scholars talking about zombies. More low-key this year, but enjoyed a Samhain dusk walk with my dog complete with atmospheric mist 🎃

Seeing as it’s Halloween, a reminder to check out @baconetti’s brilliant collection Death in the 21st Century. It also includes a chapter of mine looking at the strange and glorious time of @markiplier and @ethannestor’s work Unus Annus #MomemtoMori #UnusAnnus🖤💀🤍

For the record, Destroying Angel is still my favourite poisonous thing (how could it not be with a name like that??) but, thanks to #poisongarden @AlnwickGarden, the rather terrifying gympie-gympie is a close second

Really enjoyed visiting The Poison Garden at @AlnwickGarden last month. Absolutely fascinating - I really hope they are able to do more in the future! Special thanks for @johnknox1971 for taking extra time to tell me more amazing tales. A horror must #poisongarden

Highly recommending #theedgeofsleep (on amazon prime). Lovely weird and creepy horror with one of my favourite creators @markiplier. I definitely will be writing about this one! Unfortunately only in the US at the moment, unless you can get a cheeky VPN.

One of my favourite creepy plants…
HALLOWEEN FUNGHI or DEAD MAN'S FINGERS, Xylaria polymorpha, alluded to in Act IV Scene 7 of Hamlet; a saprobic fungus, it's an inhabitant of forest & woodland areas, usually growing from the bases of rotting or injured tree stumps and decaying wood #31DaysofHalloween

Ah the ‘is Rocky Horror problematic’ chat. Through a 2024 lens - of course it is. But babies, being gay was *illegal* in England 6 years before Rocky was first staged in ‘73. It was brave, bold & brilliant for its time. Look beyond the end of your own nose, just briefly. Please.

SCOTLAND'S FAIRY COFFINS In 1836 in a rocky crag known as Arthur’s Seat, a little cave was found containing 17 tiny coffins, 4 inches long, inside were miniature wooden figures. They remain mysterious, associated with witchcraft, fairy funerals & mock burials #31daysofhalloween
