Pretty absurd that chatGPT has passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
Today, it takes 4 years of med school and 2+ years of clinical rotations to pass. It tests ambiguous scenarios & closely-related differential diagnoses
medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The cited article (which has not been peer-reviewed) does not conclude that ChatGPT had “passed” the USMLE, as has been stated in this tweet.
Rather, the results approached passing but did not meet/reach it, with accuracy for Step 1 68.0%, Step 2CK 58.3%, and Step 3 62.4%. t.co/GGKbYfeUFR

White parents: please talk to your children about anti-Blackness. Ask them how they treat Black children and if they’ve ever heard or participated in racist behavior. I continue to see Black children who are suicidal because of racist bullying 😭1/2

The history of epilepsy genetics | Beyond the Ion Channel

ALT Figure 1. The timeline of gene discovery in the epilepsies, including 126 manually reviewed genes across the three main eras of epilepsy gene discovery including the Channelopathy era, the Dark Ages, and the Genomic Era. Of note, not all genes contributing to the timeline are highlighted, but they are listed in a Supplement. The inset on the left highlights genes official review by our ClinGen Epilepsy Gene Curation Expert Panel (GCEP). Please note that this is v2 of the 2023 timeline and that future iterations may follow.

Proud to share scMultiSim, a simulator of single cell multi-omics data guided by gene regulatory networks and cell-cell interactions. With ground-truth cell identity, GRN and CCIs, this tool can be used to benchmark multi-omics integration methods, GRN and CCI inference methods.

What do polygenic risk scores (PRS) add to the seemingly simple question about family history (FH)?
We explored the interplay of PRS and FH in over 20 common diseases, showing that they have little overlap and provide complementary information.

A word on the idiocy known as "immunity debt". How did such a nonsensical idea take hold?
Simple. The obvious mental model for our immune system is a muscle: use it or lose it. Muscles atrophy when we don't use them. The same mental model works for our memories & skills.

Today, we’re introducing a new model that eliminates accept/reject decisions.
By publishing every paper with eLife reviews as a Reviewed Preprint, we plan to restore autonomy to authors, ensuring that they will be judged by what, not where, they publish. elifesciences.org/inside-eli…

EXCITING—The Novavax protein-based #COVID vaccine has been authorized as a booster for adults ages 18 and older. People who got Pfizer, Moderna or J&J can now also receive #Novavax as a #booster! Also has benefit against #BA5. Cuts another anti-vax excuse.
