What does it cost to see the #NorthernLights in #Europe on a budget? Lets do it via #Finland and check the costs. This is an estimate for a budget traveler wanting to go on a trip in October 2024 and starts planning today. Guess the cost per person 🤌 Plan is to cover the below: - Helsinki - 4 days with day trip to Tallinn - Rovaniemi - 4 day - Saariselkä - 1 day 1. Schengen Visa Cost: Rs. 11000 Finland has a walk-in appointment across India so appointment availability is not an issue 2. Flights: Rs. 51000 If you don't like layover flights, then you can take Air France with just 12 kg 🎒 or pay extra for 💼 3. Train Helsinki > Rovaniemi > Helsinki one-way: Rs. 2200. Check the dates the trains are cheapest and plan around them. Take overnight trains to save a night's cost at the hostel. Rs. 6000 approx. return train journey 4. Stay Costs (Hostels) Helsinki: Rs. 1800 per night at CheapSleep Helsinki Hostel. 4 days = Rs. 8000 approx. Rovaniemi: Rs. 3500 per night at Hostel Cafe Koti. 4 days = Rs. 14000 approx. Saariselkä: Rs. 6000 - Rs. 7500 per night at Arctic Log Cabins (This place is optional so you can do or omit based on your budget) = Rs. 7500 approx costs Tip: - This same place can be booked for cheap if booked before a few months. Just in case you plan for any other upcoming years - Option to add Inari for a night or two also if your budget and time permits Total Stay Cost: Rs. 29500 as per plan above 5. Additional Costs - Northern Lights Tour: Rs. 8000 - 18000 With a little planning you can view them yourself too. Can even hire a car and visit the sites. Or do it with some walking outside the city limits. Saves the cost of the tour. - Other tours etc are available which you can pick and choose as per your budget For cost, let's add Rs. 20000 assuming you will do the tour 6. Food Cost For calculation sake we add Rs. 4000 a day approx. For 10 days = Rs. 40000 *This is on the higher side and depending on where and what you eat can get this costs down. Can cook in your hostel and get this down to Rs. 15000 - 20000 7. Miscellaneous expenses like attraction entry fees + internal commute etc: Rs. 30000 approx. 8. Day trip to Tallinn Return Cruise Cost: Rs. 4000 only You can even plan a two day one night trip here. Depending on your budget. Tip: Tallinn is beautiful. Totally worth the trip. I stayed for 2 days before going further south to other countries. So we added the cost of Visa + Flights + Stay + Internal Commute + Cruise + Miscellaneous Expenses. Total Cost for a 9/10 days trip including Northern Lights: Rs. 151500 approx. (Note: Food costs are not added in the above estimate.
