Some big Scottish Football TV news this morning. The SPFL have officially gone out to tender for live Scottish Premiership broadcast rights from 2029 onwards. The League have been “that it is flexible about the number of games that it shows live in future and the [tender] invites bidders to discuss their preferences with the league.” Currently Sky holds the rights for up to 60 first-pick matches - and used between 48 and 53 throughout their deal and are paying £29.5m per season. Premier Sports have secondary rights of 22 live matches - and are paying around £4m per season. BBC Scotland have live radio and highlights and are paying somewhere in the low-to-mid seven figure range. Flexibility in broadcasting is something we’ve been looking for ages - so healthy to see the SPFL seek it out.
