It was a great pleasure to speak at the FIDE Commission for Women's Chess meeting and exchange ideas about how we can create more opportunities for women and girls in our game. My programme is based on a simple principle: opportunity in chess should not depend on gender, geography or resources. We propose increasing annual funding for women’s chess from €100,000 to €500,000, moving prize funds towards parity in flagship events, maintaining a stable women’s calendar, and creating more professional pathways for women as players, arbiters, coaches and educators. We also want to expand chess in education and give national federations better tools to bring more girls into chess and help them stay, compete and succeed. In Kazakhstan, we see every day what women can achieve in chess. We have a strong women’s national team, which is now among the leaders at the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. Women also play an important role in the leadership of our federation. One of them is Gulmira Dauletova, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and a member of the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess. Today, Gulmira received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her achievements in promoting women in chess worldwide. It is a recognition of the work she has been doing for many years, creating opportunities for women and girls, supporting new projects and helping women’s chess in Kazakhstan become stronger and more visible internationally. I am very happy to see her work recognised by the international chess community. Women’s chess must be an integral part of how we grow chess worldwide. We want more girls to enter the game, more women to stay in chess, and more opportunities for them to compete, work and succeed. #turlovforchess #womeninchess
