How many people have to die as a direct result of judges releasing violent criminals under the SAFE-T Act before we admit this law is failing? These are preventable tragedies that occur when known risks are ignored and dangerous monsters are put back on the streets. There should be accountability when decisions repeatedly endanger the public. Judicial immunity was never meant to shield outcomes that put innocent people at risk. If public safety is not the first priority, then the system is broken, and it must be fixed. We need legislation aimed at holding judges accountable when they disregard the safety of law-abiding citizens in favor of being empathetic to those whose actions have demonstrated they are a danger to the public. I'm calling on the Illinois General Assembly to introduce the Michael Altman Public Safety Accountability Act to hold judges accountable.
