Paul "Pigsty' Meisenbach served in the jungles of Vietnam. When the war ended, his service didn’t. He found community at CVA.
He was one of our most dedicated champions in Pennsylvania, and CVA honors his service by ensuring his legacy carries on.

In Remembrance of Beirut
#OTD in 1983, a terrorist bombing at the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, claimed the lives of 241 U.S. service members, including 220 Marines, serving as part of the Multinational Force in Lebanon.
On October 23, a suicide bomber drove a truck laden with explosives into the barracks where U.S. Marines were stationed on a peacekeeping mission. The attack devastated the building and became one of the deadliest days in Marine Corps History.
The Marines in Beirut were deployed to help restore peace and stability amid escalating violence in Lebanon. Despite the dangers they faced, they carried out their mission with courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to one another.
The Beirut bombing left a lasting mark on the #MarineCorps and the nation. We remember the lost lives, honor the wounded and survivors, and recognize the families and loved ones who continue to carry the weight of that day. Their sacrifice remains woven into the legacy of every #Marine who has answered the call to serve.
Today, we pause to remember the 241 American service members who never made it home and honor their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty.
They came in peace. They will never be forgotten.

The idea of maintaining overseas bases was to project U.S. strength worldwide.
But the war in Iran makes you wonder, “Is the juice worth the squeeze?”
Our presence encourages local jurisdictions to become dependent while exposing the U.S. to potential attacks abroad.
The U.S. can maintain its global strength right here at home; @defpriorities’ @chrisjmccallion explains how that can be done: bit.ly/4jAJTIH
VA ratings are changing regardless of whether the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act is passed or not.
With the legislation, the savings are reinvested to help veterans with mental health care needs.
Without the legislation, the savings go back to Washington bureaucrats.
America needs more energy.
Wars abroad show why.
Market shocks, conflict, and slow permitting at home send us shopping for energy overseas, pulling us deeper into foreign conflicts while funding war through energy sales.
Diesel sales should be made here in the United States instead, but a slow, painful permitting process is preventing that, driving up your energy bills.
@AFPHq explains how.

Many veterans are still waiting an average of 2 months just for routine dental appointments.
Expanded access to community care can reduce wait times. But Congress needs to pass legislation now to make easy access to care a reality.
.@TaskandPurpose’s Austin Campbell sheds light on the causes of delays and how community care ensures patients can get the care they need when they need it.

Emerging threats are making our troops vulnerable, even in the U.K.
Access to cheap drones and missiles is a game changer for adversaries like Iran, when it was once seen as unlikely for them to acquire only a few short years ago.
Drawing down the U.S. military presence overseas is an effective way of preventing future attacks on our service members, while America can still be ready to respond to threats globally when needed.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Afghanistan war, a nearly two-decade-long occupation that instead should have been a swift operation.
Thousands of U.S. troops died during that period. Mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters.
May we remember the sacrifices they made.
George Washington saw today’s foreign policy debates coming.
More than 200 years later, his warnings on realism and restraint still hold up.
Read CVA’s blog to learn about the lessons Washington had back then, and how we can apply them today.
