Randal Rauser used to have some interesting things to say, but I don't find much of his recent work very convincing. Mining ancient biblical texts for graphic content and then interpreting it in the light of modern ethical understanding is not good scholarship.
Probably stopped being interested when he wasn't able to give a very convincing response to Heiser's observation that the cherem commands in Joshua were reserved for places where Rephaim were present. He presents this as mere rhetoric, a way of dehumanising Canaanites.
Michael Heiser and Timothy Keller. It's been a sad couple of months. Definitely people I'd want a conversation with in the new kingdom.
Hello folks, I have not tweeted much lately. I hope you are all well. My apologetics ministry mostly happens in a high-school classroom setting at the moment, where I am teaching a worldviews course to Year 10 students. It's amazing and difficult.
The gospel is the news about Jesus, who is king over creation, having defeated his spiritual enemies at the cross and ascended to rule with/as God. As such, we have a decision to make, about whether we bow the knee to him and take up his cause, or not.
This King rules the cosmos, he will return to judge the living and the dead, and he will finally destroy the powers that raised themselves up in opposition to his goodness. That is the gospel message which must be obeyed.
Thankfully He is a kind and good king!
Book Recommendation:
A Better Story: God, Sex and Human Flourishing (Glynn Harrison)
The author looks at the roots, claims & narratives of secular society around sex and gender, diagnoses historically poor Christian attitudes in these areas, then sketches out a better story.
Humans are infinitely valuable to God - as proved by the fact that Jesus died for us.
Humans are inherently sinful and broken - as proved by the fact that Jesus died for us.
I try not to fall off either end of the see-saw on this issue.
A lot of bigoted statements get made against people with religious convictions, quite often by people who are 'against bigotry'. Let's be consistent in our approach to people who have an alternative value framework to us.
Looking forward to the second day of the RTC Bible Conference today. I'm attending online, along with a few colleagues from my school. Yesterday was a great day, I really enjoyed listening to @smcalpine6
Who wants to tell them? 😂
It's actually atheism that's predominantly white, according to Pew Forum data:

I think the mistake is to think that sovereignty relies on the second clause here. An omniscient God can be completely sovereign and still not need to compel or control the free choices of created beings. God can also ultimately want freedom of choice and accept what that brings.
