🚨BREAKING: A researcher says a nearly 2,000-year-old text by non-Christian Jewish historian Flavius Josephus may preserve an early written account of Jesus appearing alive after the crucifixion.
Spanish independent researcher Jesús Fernández-Pedrera Correa compared Greek, Latin, Arabic, and Syriac versions of the Testimonium Flavianum, the disputed passage about Jesus in Josephus’s *Jewish Antiquities*, written around AD 93–94.
Several of those versions describe Jesus appearing alive to his followers on the third day.
The standard Greek version states:
“He appeared to them alive again on the third day, the divine prophets having foretold these and countless other wonders about him.”
The Latin version (from Jerome, around AD 392) says:
“He appeared to them the third day alive.”
The Arabic version (from Agapius of Hierapolis, 10th century) frames it as a report from the disciples:
They “reported that he had appeared to them three days after the crucifixion, alive.”
The researcher argues that some wording could preserve an earlier form of the passage in which Josephus simply recorded what Jesus’s followers claimed to have seen, rather than a later Christian addition.
The New Testament accounts of the resurrection are earlier still, but this is one of the oldest non-Christian references to the claim that Jesus rose from the dead.
