Anthropic paint themselves as the good guys but look at this - they've agreed to pay $3.4 billion for gas fired generators for their data centers.

🚨 TAIWAN IS TAKING EMERGENCY ACTION TO STOP ITS STOCK MARKET FROM CRASHING. The AI selloff has become so severe that Taiwan is now restricting short selling and preparing a $15 BILLION emergency fund to support its stock market. And the numbers are alarming. • The TAIEX crashed over 12% last week, losing 5,510 points. • On Friday alone, the index plunged as much as 9%, recording its biggest intraday point drop in history. • Nearly $186 BILLION was wiped out from Taiwan's listed stocks by Friday's close. • Foreign investors sold roughly $16 BILLION in Taiwanese shares in just five trading days. • TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, fell 4.46% in Taiwan on Friday, after its U.S.-listed shares crashed 10.78% the previous day. The selling has become so aggressive that Taiwan's government is stepping in. Starting Monday, November 9: 1. The daily short selling limit for borrowed shares will be cut from 30% to just 3% of a stock's average trading volume. 2. Minimum short selling margin requirements will jump from 90% to 130%. 3. Authorities have authorized a $15 BILLION stabilization fund to support stocks if necessary. Companies are also being encouraged to buy back their own shares. But what's concerning is that this is happening despite TSMC reporting some of its strongest financial results ever. Its latest quarterly revenue jumped 41% to $46.7 BILLION, with a massive 66.4% gross margin. Yet investors are still aggressively selling semiconductor stocks as fears grow over the future of AI spending. TSMC's U.S.-listed shares did recover 6.33% on Friday, but the broader market has suffered enormous losses. Taiwan is one of the most important countries in the global semiconductor supply chain. If the AI selloff continues, the damage could spread far beyond Taiwan, affecting chipmakers, equipment suppliers and companies investing hundreds of billions in AI infrastructure. The fact that Taiwan is already preparing emergency market support shows just how serious this global AI selloff has become.

Microsoft has filed a patent for an AI system that could rewrite what people say during livestreams in real time. It could change words depending on who's watching, taking into account their age, location, and language. The idea is to clean up broadcasts by removing filler words, censoring swearing, or even replacing certain words. The AI could also adjust the speaker's lip movements so viewers wouldn't notice anything had been changed.

According to the pro-AI guys, there's no difference between constitutional representative democracy, and being ruled over by the totalitarian despotism of an ultra-powerful alien machine intelligence that has no allegiance or accountability to humanity. Indeed, they prefer the machine to democracy.
The reaction to this annoys me. We already turn over our decision-making! It’s called representative democracy! You, the person, are already disempowered. Yet, what matters is not power, but liberty. Do you expect Claude to be better or worse at this than your representative?

The people warning about ASI have generally been technophilic libertarians and senior researchers in the field, not progressive partisans. Until recently, the progressive stance was that AI risk is a lie to hype up AI products!

Read this from Ajeya. Then read it again. This is really bad. We may have very little time to prevent this. If your plan doesn't provide for a path to putting the brakes on this in 2027, it seems like a weak plan. The board is set. We know enough. Governments should act now.
The authors of the METR AI R&D report estimate that AI is nearly doubling the rate of capabilities progress. This implies dramatic *uplift*: as if researchers experienced time ~10x faster. You probably couldn’t achieve this even if you hired every qualified human in the world.

Breaking: Green line represents a widespread fantasy, and roughly the rocket that Anthropic would have needed to make it as a sustainable business. The dark bars on the right show that they already fell off the pace — which is why they probably won’t make it.
Anthropic’s October ARR topped $80B, per WSJ, consistent with TickerTrends tracking We tracked $82.33B as of Oct. 30, up 7.2% from our Sept. 24 weekly release

If you simply froze AI capability at Mythos / Astra levels and focused on decreasing the cost of compute you would totally revolutionize software development with zero existential risk

Hey @pmarca you could save the world if you put your effort towards supporting an end to ASI development. You would be remembered as a hero for the rest of human history and you would still get to be one of the richest people ever

Lost in all the noise around this tweet is that artificial superintelligence may literally kill us all. Congresswoman, thank you for taking this issue with the seriousness that it deserves.
Top of the Democratic agenda on day 1 needs to be a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of this out of control industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence.

Looked at a certain way, an image file is just a kind of really big number. So when someone says "you can't ban math", ask them if they're saying they want to legalize all child pornography.

In resurfaced footage of Dario Amodei being interviewed, the Anthropic CEO says there will be AIs so powerful that if they want to destroy humanity, “we have basically no ability to stop it.” “There will be powerful models. They will be agentic. We’re getting towards them.” “If such a model wanted to wreak havoc and destroy humanity or whatever, I think we have basically no ability to stop it.”
