New textbooks for Syrian schools for the 2025-2026 academic years, released under President Ahmad al-Sharaa, have changed how the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire is taught.
The term "Great Arab Revolt" has been removed, and anti-Turkish statements have been softened.
In the 2017-2018 edition, released during Assad's rule, it stated that the Great Arab Revolt (1916-1918), led by Sheikh Hussein, was aimed "at liberating Arab lands from Ottoman occupation and the rule of Turkish Unionists".
In the new edition, this is called the "rebel movement of Hussein ibn Ali", whose goal was "to separate Arab lands from the Ottoman Empire".
While the old text stated that the war in the East was waged "to liberate the peoples from the injustice of the Turks", the new text states that its goal was "to expel the Ottomans from this region".

Lula re-elected as President of Brazil.
80-year-old Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the second round of Brazil's presidential elections, which took place this Sunday.
After more than 99% of the ballots were counted, he leads 45-year-old Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who won the first round of the elections and is the son of Brazil's convicted former president, by more than three percent. Lula receives 51.8% of the votes, while Bolsonaro gets 48.2%.
This is the first time in Brazilian history that a candidate who lost the first round of voting has won the election.

He calls the "genocide" label over Gaza an exaggeration. With the US disengaging, Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are moving to fill the vacuum.
Athens rightly put national interests first, building a holistic strategy that strengthened its hand against Ankara. Interests are not fully identical, but foreign policy is no field of moral perfection. For Greece, Israel is the irreplaceable strategic partner.

Nader Zaki, “Bu memorandumun geçersiz ve yasadışı olduğu görüşü yalnızca Mısır’ın görüşü değildir. Yunanistan, Kıbrıs ve tüm Avrupa Birliği benzer bir tutum sergiledi” dedi.
