(iii) Now let's try again with N=500 random stars in each bin of "g-r" color. Retrieving all 4000 spectra (8 bins x 500 each) and combining them takes ~ 1 min 30 sec. The results look very nice with a much higher signal-to-noise ratio and a clear trend (relative to N=10)!

(ii) Next we'll focus on the region of color-color space within the 4 red lines and select stars in 8 small bins of "g-r". First, we pick just 10 random stars per bin. Retrieving 8x10=80 spectra w/ SPARCL, combining them with a median and plotting takes less than 5 seconds!

Now let's zoom in on a fun use case that illustrates the power of combining the Data Lab and SPARCL! (i) Starting from the Jupyter notebook server of the Data Lab, we queried a SDSS DR16 table for stars and their colors in "g-r" and "z-r" filters and made this color-color plot

SPARCL stands for "SPectra Analysis & Retrievable Catalog Lab" and our main goal is to allow fast access & analysis of large spectroscopic datasets such as @sdssurveys (currently serving DR16) & upcoming public releases of @desisurvey spectra (2/5)

And... we had to do a re-take after one more astro-coder joined the group. Happy Halloween to all!
